Wow! Never heard of that before. Just changed mine over to a plastic one. Good thing.

My water pump started leaking on me last night. I guess I'll be changing the waterpump, thermostat and fan. I have never seen anything like that and don't ever want to on my rig.

Since this happened all of our Cruiser have plastic fans. Thanks for everyones comments and input. and yes check motor mounts, radiaor supports, and shrouds. I have the fan and shroud hanging up outside the shop , I get alot of comments and have heard alot of stories about a friend who had a friend, But I had this happen first hand so I know for sure YES they Break, Have a good one

I have been asked about what happen awhile back with my stock metal fan just thought I would bump this so those with questions can see for themselfs what can happen

Just a thought,
do you think Toyota switched to the plastic part for "saftey reasons"
or because this plastic fans are cheaper to produce ?
Thinks the second is the reason ... just my two pence ;)
Cheers
Peter

Bumping this up after a few years. Just had a buddy call looking for a plastic fan. Only he lost his radiator when his fan snapped

My metal fan on the 40 lodged itself in the hood a number of years ago. Changed to plastic, but just the other day realized I still have the 4 blade metal fan on the 55.

It will get changed soon.
