We were out driving the 45 the other day and all of a sudden I thought we had thrown a Rod. The Cruiser started shaking apart. Once I shut it down and opened the hood this is what I found :crybaby: SCARY !!! So I will be changing all my Cruisers over to plastic fans. Funny I was talking to Mark today and before I could finish my story he had already guesed what happened. So Just throwing this out there Dont let this happen to you

No damage to the rad

Caught by the fan shroud. AMAZING!

I had one go and dent the hood. It also took out the radiator. You have to check them periodically for stress cracks, which generally precede complete fractures. I know that happened to mine because we could see the rust surface of the old portion of the crack.

Good one:beer: I need to replace the fan on my green 40, It has had a crack for the last 5 years.

thats crazy never seen one brake on a fj40. heard one time this guy just finsh building his mustang that took him years and had a steal fan, he was showing off his car and had the hood open and went to give it gas from the carb by hand and the blade broke when he rev it and killed him since he was leaning in side the hood to give it gas

Ugh. I know a guy who literally lost his arm due to a metal fan breaking and gouging his arm so badly they had to amputate it. Be careful! ;)

When you upgrade your fan, make sure you upgrade Landcrusher 910's as well.

910 and 911's You bet Dan . We will be up grading to the 6 blade plastic fan. :wrench: Yes I had always heard stories kind of like an urban myth about blades breaking off and causing alot damage but seeing it first hand was something else.

Glad to hear there was no major damage.
Good info for those of us still running with metal fans.

I can't believe that no one has posted the pic of the fan blade sticking through the hood of a 40:rolleyes:
Who's got it?

Ed

my friend had a flex-a-lite fan blade go through the hood, not as much mass as a stock fan but alot sharper...... guess it doesnt really matter how heavy or sharp if it blows off at the redline.

That looks nasty. Anyone have the P/N for the plastic fan on hand?

Heard about this, but never seen it, thanks for posting it up!

every one says change out to a plastic one.

You dodged a bullet in regard to the radiator. I recommend plastic Flex-a-Lite fans.
