headlight upgrade ?

i have an 84 that i ran h4 in with the stock wiring for 3 or 4 years with no problem then i up graded to HID, and still have the stock wiring.
 
It will work, but you should check the voltage drop in your harness, the upgraded harness gets a lot more power to the lights which equals more light...

I have Hella lenses with H4's and 4Crawler's harness, and it's like new car headlights. Very enjoyable... :cheers:
 
I'd argue for upgraded harnesses even for stock lights. Running the power directly to the battery and using relays will make even your stock lights brighter. For any upgrade of bulbs, I'd go to the trouble of upgrading the harness for the same reason - make full use of the upgraded bulbs.

After doing my Toyota for the H4 bulbs, I put together harnesses for my Chevy K2500 and Saab 900S. Even with the stock bulbs they both have much brighter headlights now.
 
i went with euro lenses (Susquehanna MotorSports - High Performance Vehicle Lighting and Competition Accessories) and hid setup (www.ddmtuning.com , they are pretty damn cheap but i have had no problems with them so far in three vehicles for the past year). h4 hid kits come with an "upgraded" harness. the original plug for the lamp is used only to trip the relay for switching from high to low beams, power for the ballasts is direct from the battery. the h4 hi/low kit is only one lamp, switching from high to low changes the position of the lamp under a shroud-thingy instead of powering another lamp or filament. hid lamps give you way more lumens per watt. i have 55w hid for headlamps, and 90/130w auxiliaries, the hids easily drown out the halogens and draw a little less than half the amperage.

dot lenses are crap, they diffuse the light too much. euros are more focused, and throw a beam at the shoulder of the road (that's why sometimes rhd and lhd is specified for ordering them). you could put the biggest wattage halogens in a dot lens, and they would still suck.

Agreed. "DOT" spec lenses are very inefficient.
 
I have Hella DOT conversion lenses and I'm happy with them. It came with truck but I recently hit a deer damaging the drivers side. I bought a replacement from the same place Chang-kuao-lo got his. The problem I have in getting the Code E lenes is the Department of Transportation wants to see the "DOT" label on the lenses at each inspection here in Texas. Everyone I have talked to have liked the Code e lenses and I agree it's a much better. So I may still be getting them in the future. Check your voltage at the headlight connection and than check it at the battery while it’s running. That should give you an idea where you stand as far as how much more voltage you will gain if you went to the "upgraded" harnessss. You can make you own harness for a lot less just make sure you use a relay for each side.
 
just keep a spare set of cheapy dot lenses under the bench for inspection time. easier here in md, you only have to do inspection when the vehicle is bought and sold.
 
I've been contemplating the same conversion, but visionxstore.com has the same thing here or are they ?

I was going to run the visionx housings with a 55/100 halogen then decide if I want to upgrade my harness or ad a LED bar

they were my first choice , but they were out of stock , so I went with DDM , no complaints , new lights are a lot brighter than the sealed beam they replaced , now I need to upgrade the harness

or go hid, never used my high beams with my hid system, now they do not work!

oh and i live in the country where it is dark and there are a lot of deer!
