Looking to upgrade my headlights into some nice LEDs. Anyone have any recommendations on what has worked well. Thank you and hope you all are enjoying the holidays.

I went on a shopping spree on Amazon and purchased Hella E code H4 headlights, LED bulbs and relays. I've been running them for over a year and the light difference is amazing. I don't get high beamed at all. I did find that they washed out the turn signal lights, after a few surprises while trying to turn left at intersections I upgraded the turn signal bulbs to Amber LED ones with a built in resistor. problem solved. (I have clear lenses).

you got a link to these LED bulbs?

I just bought these off Aliexpress, I think they look really good! Should be installing them over the weekend, will give you an update later on if interested.

Just a heads up, you may need to pickup a relay for these to work. I am not 100% though for the prado's, but if they are the same as the land cruiser and the headlamps are negative switched, you will want to grab one of these: Harness

You can also find more info on this in my build thread, page 1

Thank you for the heads up!

I'll give it a go this weekend, hopefully I won't need them 🤞🏻

You're right! Just stopped by the garage and plugged one side to see if it works and it doesn't. Guess I'll have to order the conversion harness.

The harness I posted is for an H4 connector, so if yours is not an H4 you will need to search for a relay with the proper connector for your application. Sorry, I just have not had any experience with the Prado's! Best of luck on the install!

Last winter I bought a set of LED headlights for my LJ78, they did not fit in the headlight buckets because the back didn’t taper as much as the original sealed beam units. I picked up a set of H4 housings instead and have been running them for almost a year. Interestingly, standard H4 bulbs worked fine without the need for a relay and harness, despite what I had read elsewhere. Looking at parts diagrams it would appear that LJ78’s were available with an option of sealed beam or H4 headlights.

Yep it's also H4 but I'm gonna use polarity converters instead. Stopped by at a shop and they said they installed many of them (mostly on Hiluxes) and they work well. Same as these ---> https://www.amazon.com/Aramox-Negative-Converter-Reversed-Polarity/dp/B07R76NZYP

These ones should fit since I've seen other Prado owners install them, but I'll confirm tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Guess they work just fine since regular H4 bulbs are filament type so polarity does not matter, unlike LEDs.

I Installed the lights yesterday, and as you said @AirheadNut they do not taper enough for the lamp retainer to fully sit, but I tightened the bolts (you need longer ones) just enough to create some tension and its fine. Probably if you keep tightening it might bent in shape and sit as well. Haven't really tried them at night yet but they look really bright!

I've got 7" round TruckLites and they've been good, I assume their 5x7"s are similar quality. I don't have to worry about ice most of the time in my climate so I didn't get the heated ones. I don't typically get flashed. I'm not a huge fan of the color of the light LEDs put out, so I really like having my amber traditional driving lights paired with the cool white LEDs. You do lose your bright indicator with LEDs without some wiring/harness work.

I've posted this at least once, and I'm assuming LJ78 and KZJ78 have the same lighting setup... I've used these:

I think it was around $100 including a conversion harness. I'm sure there are likely better solutions - better light pattern, resistance to snow build up, etc - but for the money these have performed very well. They are a HUGE improve over OEM, but I'm sure you can find a better solution if you're willing to pay for it (I saw some of the highly ranked versions that were more like $400 per bulb). I've been using them in my DD for about 18 months... no problems at all. I've had maybe an average of one person every 3 months (so maybe half a dozen times ever) that will flash their brights at me thinking mine are too bright or maybe misaligned.

I’m running a pair of Truck-lite 27009 housings with H4 led bulbs with a wiring conversion kit from Amazon.

H4 / 9003 LED Fanless Headlight/Fog Light Conversion Kit with Compact Heat Sink - 4,000 Lumens/Set - Cool White - https://www.superbrightleds.com/h4-led-fanless-headlight-fog-light-conversion-kit-with-compact-heat-sink-4-000-lumens-set-cool-white

Cut off is perfect, with a nice wide high beam pattern so I can avoid the deer here in rural VA.
I like the fact that it keeps the stock look with glass housings and the upgrade of the LEDs.
