Update?

Add me to the list of those interested in a plug-and-play harness, provided the price isn't a ball buster.

I have just recently put in an ARB kit, was simple to install and what I like most is that if it f*%ks up I can always plug the original wires back in!!
i found it doesnt improve the low beam a great deal but definately adds the punch on hi beam
my headlights are on a different fuse to the parking lights.....not sure if this is standard (81 hj47)

When I installed the Hella headlights, I also installed the Painless Performance Headlight Conversion Harness, 30815, which now list for $129.95 at Summit Racing. It has two waterproof relays, a waterproof fuse and mating connectors that the existing headlight connectors plug into. This uses the existing wiring as the relay trigger for low or high beams. The only thing I had to do was trim the mating female receptacle that the factory headlight connector plugs into. This was due to the fact that the factory headlight connector has a step in it which limits how deep the connector will go into a mating connector. If your headlight connectors don't have the step then you will not need to trim the connector. I mounted the relays and fuse to the firewall where the old mechanical VR was mounted (using alternator with internal VR). The photo shows the Aluminum plate I fabricated to mount to the existing VR mounting tabs. It has an AUX fuse panel that powers the Painless Harness. The photo was taken prior to the two relays and fuse being mounted. You can see the screws that were used to mount the harness hardware. The harness line to the driver's side headlight was long enough to route from the relay across the firewall and then along the top of the driver's fender well to the headlight.

I have a 9/1977 FJ40. I'm running a 140 amp alternator, but with a lower idle amp the headlights still dim.

Bump to the top for a plug and play for a 9/1977 FJ30. I have Chistmas money burning a hole in my pocket...

I'm probably out of my mind for doing this since I'm barely keeping up with the orders coming in for FJ6X Landcruisers, but I've built the prototype for the FJ40 and I am waiting to hear back from a local FJ40 owner for a test fit. So be patient a little longer. I'm at least 2 or 3 weeks out from going into harness production for the FJ40s. If I get a deluge of orders, I'll have to start a wait list.

Please put me on the wait list! :)

Installed the prototype this past weekend and everything works fine. So, for those that want a custom made harness for your FJ40, you now have another option. Please visit the link in my sig line for more information.

PM with order sent.

Thanks for doing these for us!

FJ40 headlight wiring upgrade

I just received my wiring harness for the FJ40. This is an awesome product. Professionally done and a great improvement for the FJ40. It took about 20 minutes to install. I am extremely pleased, thanks for a great product.

I received mine also, but haven't had time to install it yet. It is a thing of beauty just sitting in the box - top-quality materials throughout. Can't wait to get it in and put some better headlight bulbs in too.

my headlights could be better.... but my real issue is the strobing knock offlights... the grounds suck or something cuz if 1 works the other doesnt and if i get extra hands on each light they cycle through all 3 different bulbs but dont stay on ( my blinkers dont work... whole other story X.X)
