Upgrading to 55/60W H4 halogen bulbs is a great upgrade.
Upgrading the headlamp wiring harness is a great upgrade.
Upgrading both of them together is supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

(do not use bulbs brighter than 55/60W without upgrading the headlight wiring harness)

The ebay description says Al housing and glass lenses. not sure about the actual reflector surface.

I upgraded to Hella Housings and H4 lows / H1 hi beas (the FJ62 has separate housings). I also bought SLCFJ62's wiring harness when doing this.

I was amazed at the difference in light. It should have been my first upgrade. The lighting from the 'stock lights' outdid my 2 PIAA roof lights and made them obsolete to the point I took them off.

You won't regret the upgrade. I ordered my housings off Amazon if I remember correctly.

i went with the JW Speaker 8700 Evoution 2 headlights and SLCFJ62's wiring harness upgrade. More than worth it....can actually see at night now.

I went with the Dapper lighting Classic 7" HID projectors.

Holy cow there is no comparison to the stock lights.

Mace, just an observation: your lights appear to be RHD.
LHD lights send some extra light up & off to the right to illuminate roadsigns, while keeping light down to the left to avoid blinding oncoming traffic.

Yeah, there is something I need to address about that. So far, I have not gotten any grumpy people.

I have SLCFJ62's headlight and auxiliary harnesses. I'm using a IPF H4 (E-code) housing with Sylvania Silver Star bulbs. Great upgrade !

You can also get LED H4 lamp replacements (Redline carries them).

They are amazing. A LOT less power use, and a LOT more light within the beam pattern. I put a 2001 Tacoma (which has excellent headlights IMHO) next to my faux lux which has Roundeyes and the LED lamps from Redline--the LEDs were significantly brighter.

I will almost certainly buy another set of the LED lamps from Justin at Redline with the glass Vision-X housings for my 60. If I choose not, I'll go with the Dapper HID. I wish I could try one of each side by side, but I am confident that both are amazing compared to stock.

Dan

thanks everyone. good info.

I'm liking those "Roundeyes"

Mace, There's a nut on the back of the projector that can get loose. Might still be enough resistance to twist the projector to straighten that cut out with it staying. It's a problem we've solved on the new batch. You have the LHD version, the projector just needs to be rotated a hair.

Sweet, THANKS!!!

Every time I see Mace's pic I get light envy!
That cut off is impressive!

4WP offers free shipping. I'd guess that puts them about the same money.
They've done me well on other things, notably ProComp wheels with the proper offset.

i bought the bus depot (vw web site) e code h4 hellas for 69 bucks just 2 weeks ago. They are all glass and just plug right in and take a standard h4 hi/low bulb. they have a flat lens not convex like the old sealed beams and are a big improvement

I didn't actually click on this linky before. Please don't waste $90 on $10 chicomm lights that have the amazing ability to simultaneously blind oncoming traffic while not lighting up the road.

Buy genuine Hellas HERE for $69/pair.

Gracias.

This seems to be the ticket.

i also took some xtra time and re/spraypainted the headlight surround. I removed them and masked off the plasti chrome border and applied a dark gray DUPLI-COLOR TRIM/BUMPER paint that was a perfect match. i also cleaned up the signal lenses and applied new gaskets. Easy project that takes a few years off the front end.
