Got a '73 FJ. When stopped with the head lights on and I turn the blinker on, the blinker doesn't work right. When driving, no issue.

Have replaced the alternator and voltage regulator. The battery is reading good.

Any ideas of the culprit

So, are you saying the turn signals don't work if the brakes are applied?

Thought about that, but it doesn't happen whenever you are driving the vehicle with the lights on and blinkers on it worked fine. It only happens when stopped

When things act goofy it's usually grds.

Might be your flasher unit. It's possible that while it's vibrating, it's only just lively enough to burst into life.

Do the hazards work when stopped?
You could also try cleaning your hazard switch connector - it carries all the turn signal connections and is the single common problem source.

I will have to check that the next time I see my son. it is his vehicle, and he is away at college.

I will bet it is a bad/corroded connection at the fuse that feeds power to the blinkers. It may be the voltage difference at idle cant push thru the resistance. Flasher no likey low voltage.

I have occasional hazard issues with the turn signal's function; I should clean it, but I'm uncertain of exactly how. Just barely touching the hazard switch restores the turn signal's function, while I'm out and about. I put a fresh caulking seam on the cowl, and covered that with just grey enamel paint (as to not be so obvious with yellow enamel); a cracking seam was the original issue, and with the help of a factory floor mat, it contributed to rotted floor boards.

You need to pull your hazard switch and clean out the inside.
You can jumper two pairs of wires together at the connector in order to keep the turn signals working while you do it..
