Headlight Bezel / Replacement of 1970's with 1980's version

My headlamp bezel needs replacement & I was considering changing out my '78 FJ40's with the 80's model "square" type. It appears that new holes would have to be drilled. Besides that is there any other concerns as far as fitment?

It 100% WILL NOT fit. The headlights are not the same distance apart. About an inch off I think. I just went out and compared a round and square bezel in the garage.

FYI. I fit a square 1/1979 manufacture Bezel on a Grill from a 73 with no modifications. That 1/79 was a wierd transition model. I would say get some measurements if you are planning on buying or trading.

79 with 73 bib

This was from 9 years ago. Has since gone to the Rust Demons although many part live on. Had a 73 bib and hood.

change the bib to a 79 plus and the square bezel fits. bib fits without modification

Find the bezel for your 78, I made the mistake and bought a 76 Bib and thought I could fit the newer 80 bezel on it. It didn't work. So now my 80 looks like a pre 79.

Thanks for all of the input! Based on what I learned I'll keep it original...maybe get one that has "LAND CRUISER" embossed on the top portion.
