headers revisited

well

since the ports for the exhaust manifold ARE the same on the 2F and the 3FE; these ram's horn headers should fit up to the head and be a bolt on - EXCEPT THAT THE INTAKE MANIFOLDS ARE DIFFERENT - which renders them unusable?

The tech question is: HOW CAN THESE BE USED? there has to be a replacement intake manifold that would work. i am not concerned about hooking up the rear to the exhaust system. i have a couple of wizards in the muffler biz that can do that.

here they are. i have seen some very good reviews of this style of header. it does not seem that they would take any more room in the compartment and the rear end could be routed with an H or Y pipe for optimum placement and performance. credit jpg to MAF online parts catalog.

one more thought while on the topic:

since the f and 2 f engines so closely match the old chevy 6 cylinder (255 - i think) and the carbs and distribs will interchange with just a few gear mods, etc., is there any chance that the intake & exhaust manifolds or even headers would also interchange? this would most certainly give us many additional options.

i know on several occasions when i opened the hood in front of an old time shade tree mechanic they made the comment that the engines looked almost exactly the same.

comments, additions, expertise or opinions appreciated.

They look similar, except didn't Chebby (and Ferd) go to a 7 main bearing design? Sigh...

If you are hell bent on a 3FE header, why not pick up the stock 3FE manifolds and study them? If Mark and Jim are saying they are pretty good vs a header, you could try bolting those on your 2F...

I don't understand all the fuss here. Why make it so complicated? Buy a 2F header and be done with it.

It's a 235 chevy BTW (there are also 250 and 292 chevy straight six engines) and no, they are not in any way close enough to interchange these parts.

Senor -
Since you have buds in the muff biz, why not use the MAF 6-2 Ceramic-coated 2F headers & have them either modify the smog Y-pipe (plug the air pipe) or make a new one?

Unless you're in love with the "bundle of snakes" look.
