Started doing the HG on my personal cruiser a couple weekends ago. I don't have much time to devote to it with so many other things taking priority. Getting it done as maintenance at 263K miles. There are a few leaks so I'll address those too.

While I'm at it, I am replacing the main harness, all new nuts, bolts, etc., alternator, hoses, thermostat, water pump, main seal, oil cooler seal, and we'll see what else.

Had to grind two studs on the exhaust side where the 4 studs are. Now to get the left over piece out. On the intake side there was a LOT of carbon buildup, Greta wouldn't be happy. Will take the intake to the machine shop too, let them get it cleaned up.

Pics to follow. Plugs 3, 4, and 5 were covered with oil.

I am replacing the engine harness. Of the two wires that go over the bell housing, one goes down to the O2 sensors. I can’t figure out what the other one goes to. Anyone?

Look at the 29:50 mark of this @OTRAMM video and there's your answer: Neutral Safety Switch and tranny temp sensor.

while your in there...might as pull it, have the cylinders bored, new piston and rings, reset the mains... yadda yadda yadda.
In for $2K now, what's another grand?

I had considered it, but I don't see a need to do the bottom end right now. At 263K I can wait until the next head gasket and do it then. It was strongly considered though.

So here are the two plugs to unplug besides the O2 sensors. I tied a string to each So as I guided them out the top I’d have a line to pull the new harness back through. Did some repairs to a bit of the other looms down under.

Easy to see, tricky to get off for me
