HDJ81 interesting info

according to the EPC the manual tranny equiped HDJ81s come with 3.727 gearing in the diffs and the autos come with 4.10

did anyone else know this? i guess i assumed all the HDJ81s came with 4.10 because the 80 series in the states were all autos...

Interesting. The 60 series was the same.
FJ60 manual (US spec) had 3.7,
FJ62, all auto (US/CDN spec) had 4.1,
HJ60 manual (cdn spec) had 3.7,
HJ60 auto (cdn spec) had 4.1

The autos seem to have a deeper overdrive.

Here all 80 ( not 81 ) post 95 come with 4.10 manual or auto. I'm not sure but long time ago ( when I knew less about this ) I see a 80 with 4.30 but maybe is a mistake.

Negative on that. I used to have an HDJ-80 (from Czech) with H151 & HF2AV combo with the 3.7 r&p. Later changed it out to 4.11 with 35" tyres.

typical pre 1990 had 37:10 (3.70) or 37:9 ("4.11")

typical post 1990 had 41:10 (4.10) or 41:11 ("3.73")

later still have 4.3's

but then again there were 3.36's in the early 1960's...

My HDJ80L came orginally with 3.7x gears (H151 tranny), and they were swapped out for 4.10s.

No that would be from 1998 and on with the 100 series and the 4.3x gear set.
