I did a quick search and found a few relate post but nothing exact as my problem.
Went to pull the Land Cruiser out of the garage today and noticed that the started stayed engaged. This has happened before and I usually shut it off and restart no problem. Well today it kept trying to start after key was removed. I rushed to pull the negative from the battery to stop the starter. But now even if I touch the negative to the post she try's to start again (no key). I think I have a solenoid problem. I have read a bit that they can get corroded and fuse together. I am hoping I can just pull my started and solenoid and clean up the terminals. Is this an easy job or will I have to replace parts? and can the parts be found? Any threads on pulling the starter?
Thanks in advance

Thanks. I will try that. Is the starter hard to pull. It looks like it will be a pain
Thanks again

The 1HD starter is easy compared to the 1FZ. Two bolts and a few connectors, and some wiggling to get it out through the bottom. Be sure to disconnect the Positive Terminals at both batteries first.

Mine did this for ages, used to have to keep hitting it with a hammer to get it to disengage. Buy the new contacts and alls good again..

I have had to do it

Yeah I had a similar well actually the same thing happened eventually it got stuck in for a few minutes. Took it in to a really good rebuilder guy and he fixed it back to new again. Had to replace some parts but he said it had fuzed itself together and the gear was cracked so he replaced a bunch of stuff. Cost me $350 or something the peace of mind that a qualified electronics specialist fixed it and looked over my whole system to make sure all the wiring seemed good was worth every penny

Anyone know the part number for the starter rebuild kit for the 24volt 1HDT starter. Plunger and contacts and where to buy in Canada or the US with descent shipping cost. I didn't pull the starter yet but had a good look at it tonight and read plenty of threads on this. The top bolt does look like a pain to get to with all the wires in the way. Does any connectors have to be removed besides the main power and main ground on mounting bolt?
Thanks

Found some part numbers with some digging online: Toyota dealer says they can order them in for a decent price: part numbers I found are: plunger: 28235-17030, and contacts: 28226-54320, and 28226-54220. Can anyone confirm these numbers on a 24volt starter for the HDJ81? Thanks

So I was able to pull the starter tonight. I will say that top nut was very hard to get at, but was fine after that and not getting the little screw nut off first. Here are some photos: the truck will stay in garage till parts come in (28235-17030, and contacts: 28226-54320, and 28226-54220) starter did seem to be open/ extended in flywheel when I pulled it and had to push in after. I am sure with just a cleaning it would work if I wanted to reinstall till part arrive, but that starter pull was too difficult to do
unless necessary.

I had the same problem several years ago. I pulled the starter out and replaced the contacts (but kept the original plunger), and all is good ever since. one of the contacts I removed was worn down to almost nothing. It was overdue for replacement...

My starter has stuck engaged a couple times on me recently, looks like a rebuild is in my future as well.

So disconnect the batteries, 2 bolts and electrical connectors and it's out?

@meafordmike make sure you post lots of pics when you do the service on the starter!

Well yes. But I found it very hard to pull the starter. When I reinstalled I noticed that it sounded like the starter was still protruding on flywheel. I pulled the starter again and reused the same plunger and now it works. Both parts looked the same. I picked up the rebuild parts at a local starter shop.

Got this done last night, the top bolt on the starter is definitely a PITA, before putting it back in I pushed the wiring harnesses up and out of the way, made reinstallation much easier.
