Disclaimer: I did not receive any compensation of any kind for documenting my trailer build.

This thread is to document a trailer I'm having built.

Trailer is being built by Hawn Freeway Trailer Sales & Service, Dallas, Texas. They are known for their custom trailer work. The owners, Mark and James are very nice guys and really know how to build a trailer.

Hawn Freeway Trailer Sales & Service, Inc., Dallas, Texas - Home Page - Manufacturer of custom bumper pull & gooseneck trailers. Leading manufacturer of utility trailers, landscape trailers, ATV trailers, double atv, equipment trailers, pipe top trai

I'm needing something this is capable of hauling 7K to 10K of weight without any issues. This will be a custom build to suit the needs of my not so stock FJ40. I'm estimating my FJ40 to weigh over 5K lbs.

Some requirements:

1. 96" wide overall width. This is needed for a tight parking space and I didn't want a 102" wide trailer.
2. Dual 7K axles with oil lubricated bath, electric brakes on both axles
3. Drive over and removable fenders
4. 16' bed with long tongue. Longer tongue = better pulling and easier to backup
5. Removable hitch with 2 5/16" ball
6. Ramps that slide out the rear instead of sides
7. 2 spare tires mounted under the trailer
8. LED lights
9. Douglas Fir wood decking for durability
10. Tool box mounted in the front
11. Plenty of stake pockets and u-bolts for securing cargo
12. Galvanized plating for rust resistance
13. 4 removable 7K jacks that can be mounted on all 4 corner.

I stopped by today and took some progress pics of it. I will be updating this thread from time to time as I get a chance to visit and take pics.

good thing you put in that disclaimer, otherwise I woulda thought it was an add....

maybe not so much once we get the shots of yr built 40 on the custom trailer, eh? ;)

I stopped by the shop today. They were very busy building a bunch of gooseneck trailers for Telecom companies. They also had a 50' long trailer they were converting from bumper pool to gooseneck.

They're making progress on the trailer. The build is going slow which is perfectly fine for me. Gives me more time to think about what other features I might want on the trailer and also allows the trailer builder to work at their leisure. Once the frame gets done, I think the build will move much faster.

It is very nice to be able to talk and discuss the build with someone willing to work with you.

Attached are some pics. Notice the notched 6" C channel for the "full width"option.

Next week, they should be done with the cross members mount for spare tires.

Don't worry.... I'll have the pic of my junk on the trailer when it is done.

I had a chance to stop by today. I've been busy and did have time to see the progress in the last couple of weeks. Good thing they're willing to wait on me.

Some pics. They got the crossmembers installed. They're 3" C channel on 16" centers. The "outboarding" part of the trailer will have wood on it.

more pics. On the bottom pic the "10-058" indicates the year and trailer #58 they're building. They said during the very busy years, they were building 700 trailers a year. Each trailer is built by one person and has lots of quality details.

So far, it has been a real pleasure working with Mark. He is a very good listener and do what you request. It is nice to talk to someone who has lots of experience to provide honest feedback on what I would like done.

Some other work they're doing in the shop.

Gooseneck build. They're building 30 of these trailers for an oil company. They made the aluminum tank which will hold 500 gallons of diesel fuel used for a big water pump.

I had a chance to visit today and got some more pics. They're working on the drive over fenders. They have the ramp, mount for spare tires, cutouts for lights done.

The receiver hitch will be used to mount stairs/steps when I'm camping on top of the trailer, hold/support 20 ft. sticks of steel or lumber. It will not be used to two anything.

Greenlee Job box will be mounted in the front of the trailer. The legs on the bottom of the box will be cut off.
Trailer battery will be mounted inside the job box. They're going to decide on the color. I'm not too crazy about the green color.

Greenlee 2142 Storage Chest (42"W x 20"D x 20"H) Patented, recessed and concealed lock protectors for maximum security...

Next week they'll complete the removable drive over fenders, install 4 more running lights (at my request), mount weld on tie downs (9 of them), install stake pockets, and get ready for a bath in the galvanizing tank.
