I have to remove my '83 FJ60 split case so I can mount it to an NV4500... The output shafts have zero play, and gears don't whine at all. Should I rebuild it anyways? or just replace the seals?

opinions needed:popcorn:

I'd just look for signs of wear, especially on the idler shaft and it's bearings. The O rings on the idler shaft should deffinitely be replaced since they seem to be the main offenders.

If you have to take it all apart, then you might as well rebuild it. Rather than have to do it again down the raod. My .02cents

A new input seal obviously, idler o-rings and bearings and main shaft bearings at least. If the front output bearing is solid don't bother with it. Get a Toyota seal kit if you can. Don't loose the shim in the rear output housing.
