Has anybody mounted a rechargeable flashlight in the 100?

i have to say, pelican lights suck, we sell them as some agencys are stuck with them, but 1/2 are returned as defective

SL, 1 out of 300?, SF bout the same

Our odds have been better than that, but the one that we had to return was replaced immediately by them without question. It had a bad tailcap switch.

Their customer service is pretty decent from what I've seen. I beat the snot out of the one in my cruiser and it still works fine. YMMV.

Surefire E2D LED Defender Flashlight - E2DL-BK

Best flashlight I've ever owned. Has a less bright longer term use setting and an insanely bright 200 lumen mode, which instantaneously robs anyone of their night (and day) vision. The tactical bezel is pretty sharp too. It also has a digitally controlled low battery mode, that limits you to the dimmer setting when you start running low, so you don't get stranded with out a light. I've successfully pissed off a good amount of bad guys with this light, but tactical uses aside, you will be really hard pressed to find a brighter light in a flashlight even three times as big as this. Get a 12 pack of surefire batteries for 25 bucks or so and your set for a long time.

I personally hang a headlamp off the rear view mirror. I just got a new Priceton Tec Remix for around $40 from REI and I love it. These things last up to 200 hours on a set of AAA batteries. Nothing beats being able use both hands when crawling around under the vehicle in the dark.

Ive got the same one in the glove box.

This little light fits in your cigarette lighter spot. It is small but it works really well. I have one in both of my cars.

Spotlight Rechargeable LED Vehicle Light Titanium Alum Body 86-08

I want to like these so bad, but the light output is horrible. My phone puts out better light. It's a great idea, but please make them bright!!!

I got one of these and it is Sickly bright! It puts my Surefire to same and comes with rechargeable batteries and a combo car/house charger.

I sell the Securiled RC4. Designed for the Swedish National Police by a pilot friend in Luxembourg.

pm if you're interested

sorry if this is too commercial a thread reply

I think offering a MUD discount counts as Tech. ;)

Show the flashlight and charger installed in a 100 and it'll be fine.

We at least need pics of the light and an explanation of why it's better than all the others.

example - "This is the light Swedish Police use to combat Russian vodka smugglers in the perpetual night of the arctic winter. Can run on standard CR123 batts or rendered reindeer fat."

the DS is our #1 selling rechargeable, but I REALLY like the Strion LED as its smaller(20 less lums), litium battery, fast charger

LP.....

I ordered the new DS and at the same time ordered a Scorpion because it fits in my back pocket better. I had these ordered before you posted this comment. I just had time to go back and do research and I have a question for you. I did like the size of the Strion LED but it had 1/2 the "candela". The DS is 180 lumens and 17000 candela and the Strion is only 20 less lumens @ 160 but has 8800 candela.

Is there any laymans terms that you could explain the difference?

Seems like before LED's, lights were always measured in candlepower. Usually more was better but not always. I remember I had a 500,000 candlepower spotlight that I liked a hell of a lot better than the 2 million candlepower spotlights that were available. Seemed like my 500k spotlight put more light downrange and the 2m spotlights put out a bigger "glow" around the head.

My take on it:

Candlepower measures radiance, which is basically light output at its source. While that is valuable information about the capabilities of the product itself, lumens measures actual illumination when the light is placed on other objects. In other words, it doesn't just take the overall abilities of the light source into account, but the overall brightness of a focused beam of light on another object (think lantern vs flashlight). That, to me, is far more important...and I'm only making an assumption here, but I would imagine that's why most manufacturers have started to move away from using candlepower and switched to lumens - it measures the end result, not the source.

I could be full of beans, but based on my reading that is how I've come to understand it.

OK here is what I ended up doing. I tried the placement in the deep center console but it took up too much room in the opening and was going to impede the opening up towards the top and really restrict what could be placed in there.

I experimented with several locations and finally came up with this one. I have driven around with it for a day and am very pleased. I have not come close to bumping it with my feet and the drivers seat will clear it if you move it all the way up ( like if you were 4' tall).

I can reach down with my right hand and have it in action very quickly and easily. Just thought I would post a pic for posterity:

Right now it is under carpet and into deep center console and plugged into 12v cig lighter type outlet there.

I am not sure I am going to leave it there. The instructions say that I can remove the plug and wire it direct but that it really needs "always on" power. It says the draw is only .2 amperes and that if wired direct, it really needs a 2 amp inline fuse. The instructions say to remove the flashlight from the charger if you are not going to start the car for several days so that it does not run down the car battery.

Any suggestions for where to wire this in direct? Are the electric seats "always on" or are they switched as well?

I have been using Surefire products in my construction jobs for years. we have really happy with them. OUr problem is that my men leave them in the attic, underhouse and God only know where. A couple of years ago. a workman show up with a cheap knock off and I was impress with the light output. I purchased one. It was only 32 bucks. Now, all my men has one in thbeir glove box due to its price. I have beaten the heck out of mine and it still works fine. Rechargeable 123 batteries. Plenty bright for its size, just as bright as the expensive surefires. It will run circles around full size LED Maglights. Check it out http://www.lighthound.com/Solarforce-L2-Host-Gun-Metal-Color-Type-2-Anodized_p_3488.html

YOu have buy the bulb(they call it drop in) seperately. I think they are just as good as surefire at a fraction of the price.

Delayed switch.

Huh?.....

I don't understand. Are the seats a delayed switch? Does that mean they do not have 12v under them all the time? Are you suggesting I find a "delayed switch"? I used the search function to study "delayed switch" and didn't produce anything. Can you elaborate? Any help would be highly appreciated.

I am a fair mechanic but far from electrician. Thats why I still have the factory stereo setup in this truck. I am scared of the whole wiring thing.
