Get those axle tabs mocked up so they can build it while you and Ed are doing your dick dance in Dallas :D

Plan is to get the uppers finished tonight. Get all of the measurement info and pinion angle set on the axle and get it to Sunray tomorrow am. Hopefully have it back on Monday. Final assembly and shocks. Then some of the misc. stuff I need to resolve. Then ICBM...

Dick dance? I'll have you know I only dick dance in private by myself.

So what exactly IS a dick dance, and aren't I too old to do one?

Ready to start the links!! Have all of the parts.

Here's a couple of pictures of the components. The HyperJoints are a prototype from Mark Hawley @ Metaltech. http://metaltech4x4.com/index.htm. Very cool design! Mark put a lot of research int to these - including passing the design by Tom @ Sunray to make sure he had no "copy" issues. They look similar but there are key differences.

Ed and I will Start the 4 link tonight - the pictures will start flowing again!

You should see the d.o.m. links that mark is using for his 4 link, and how we chopped up his rear frame to make room for his 12" coilovers :D

Mark must be one bussy guy having had a third little one and now building four link on his buggy, was wondering why I had not seen a post from him here or on Pirates for some time.

After hearing Rascal was building a linked buggy, guess he had to keep.....

Looking good Rascal, those joints are the s***z..........

Did you make a little jig to hold the bolt while welding them to the tube?

I ended up using 1 3/4 x 1/4 wall DOM for all four links  Should not have any issues with them...

We have yet to figure out the upper shcok mount but I think the sawsall will be involved ;)

Actually - I was lucky with the timing - as Mark was just getting ready with the prototype Hyperjoints

The Hyperjoints are very sweet - great design with the seal and all.

Nope - Ed just TIG'd them up.

Bruce,

Just read through this thread to get caught up with all you are doing to Rascal. Holy smoke man talk about some choice parts! She looks great and good job doing a bunch of the fab yourself!

Good to see the Hyperjoints are on deck and ready to go. Shoot me feed back on how they go for you and any suggestions on changes. I have a short list already for some small revisions. When you go to put the rods into the ID of your DOM….. Ya the ends of the joints where machined with +0 and -.0005” tolerance of the 1.250” end for the rod. Problem is DOM has a tolerance of +/- .008! Ok so you may need to open up the DOM a bit with some emery paper. All the DOM I am using seams to be over sized a bit. Next batch of Hyperjoints will slip right on the end of the DOM. Eh that’s why we do protos!

Great to see shots of your project, I will try to get a thread up showing mine. However my 4 link project is much less bling than yours!

LT..... well actually Rascal has seen it, it’s the same stuff he is using with his link set up! Only difference is he is using it on all four links. Beefy! I am using smaller sized 1 5/8” 3/16” wall DOM for my uppers. I don’t have that fancy rear axel that Bruce has, so only my lowers get the big stuff.

Bruce what is the plan for the top mounts for the coil-overs?

Ed says he found a sweet deal as Sams on bungee cords...

Got the upper link mounts installed tonight. Transferred all of the measurements to the axle housing. First thing in the morning I'll drop it off at Sunray and beg for a quick turnaround.

I'm glad to see you and woody going to the type of setup I want to run later on. When you guys get tired of let me know :grinpimp:
Great looking build. Your cruiser has always been one of my favorites...maybe because so many parts resemble the ones off of Nolen's, I donno :D

Nice, what is the crossmember made out of?

It is an old fence post.

Except we planed it down from a 4x4 post to 2x2 and drilled some holes to work the JB Weld into to attach the link tabs. The good news is it is treated lumber, so it will not rot very quickly at all.

Nolen is a good friend to have. ;)

2 x 2 - 1/4 wall square tube. JK uses it to build the track bar. I had to lengthen my track bar a while back and had to buy 10 ft. to get the 4 inches I needed... It is now going to good use.

It looks like .250 wall 2x2. Great job Bruce. I wish mine was coming together as fast.
Gary

Thanks Gary - in addition to it's functionality - yours will be much better looking than mine.

how is the Clearence with the Front D Shaft and the Tranny?? Similar to the D300 issue woody ran into?? Did you have to Chop any body under the passenger side to Clear the Clocked Atlas?

Looking Great man, i plan on going 700r4 to dana300 soon..
