so recently i have installed new outer rear wheel bearings and seals so the wrecker can pick it up and move it to the new house....other than that, no time no money and no desire to work on it when im trying to buy/move into the house....stay tuned

well heres what i did tonite. i replaced the wheel bearing sleeves on the axleshaft. i took my die grinder home, that i forgot last nite. heres the sleeve untouched

so in order to get the die grinder wheel to the edge of the sleeve, i had to get rid of the sheetmetal collar that was in the way. meaning, i had to remove the wheel studs in order to take the sheet metal collar off....BTW anyone know why there is a cork gasket that was/why/not there any more between the axleshaft and the collar? stange...anywhoo... so i cut the sleeves.

took a chizel and beat the notch i cut untill the sleeve broke. this is VERY brittle metal, i have found when sparks flew every time the chizel hit it, and when a peice of sleeve lodged into the sheetrock in the garage ......

in the meantime before i started, i took the new ones and stuck them in the oven at 450 degrees...

DING! sleeves smell done!

took the new sleeves out of teh oven with pliers. let them fall on the axle. LITERALLY slid right on with a slight bounce when they hit the bottom. they went PING! SUPER GRAVY!

so i took my super sweet el cheapo hydraulic press and pressed my studs back into the axle with the sheetmetal coller sandwiched. notice the ultra bling arched top of the press....i, uh, did that on purpose to make it modern...er, something like that...

tomarrow night involved using the crud thug to remove 25+year old cork gasket material so i can silicone the thirdmember and diff cover back together...i left the diff cover soak for a week in solvent, the cork still didnt wanna come off....man they did something right when they put it together...

i wish i could say i have done something to it, but circumstances have come where my toys have had to be stopped. i bought a house, that comes first when it comes to extra money. i also am having a slow time at work, so the money isnt coming in like it used to...so of course bills come first. i only need a few things to start taking the front apart, then i can continue. untill then everythings on hold

who ever said money isnt everything, hasnt had christmas dinner at denny's

mitsu did the springs for toyota...usually, it's stamped in there...never seen it painted on before.

So when you're finished with your cruiser could ya load all your welding crap in the back of it and drive it up here to canada and fix mine? there's a case of beer in it for you if you're interested. :D

damn thats a deal!

welder: millermatic 185- used 800 bucks. tuned by a welding shop- 100 bucks
literally best welder i have ever used. my welding buddies love it too. its fully rocks

plasma cutter: snapon- used 800 bucks, plus a hydraulic press (see above ghettofabulous hydraulic press)

compressor: husky 60 gallon big'un...500 bucks ( regulator, hose, water catch, mounting hardware etc.etc.)

you CAN do it. the plasma cutter is really what takes the cake, it makes life so nice. no more die grinding stuff, no more torch....wouldnt trade it for the world ( mebbe for a bigger one...lol)

ok so i boxed the front of the frame. Heres the update for today. im not super busy at work, which sucks,NO MONEY!! but its nice to get on the cruisah again.....

so....looking on the front end, i decided to reuse the spring hangers on the front end. i beat the side peice down, and welded it back together. i then ground it smooth to fit flush under the frame rail. i like the way the assemble, and should be strong enough for beating on. another thing i like, is that the way i positioned them, the outer is smaller, so it might not get snagged as easily. i tacked them into place, im waiting on spring bushings from toyota. i ran out of steel for plating, so i need to pick up more 1/4 inch plate. i want to make a plate from the front of the frame rail up the frame at least 18 inches to make sure the front end is bash proof. the front end is coming together nicley. i wish i was at work though, so i can afford to pay the bills....the automotive industry sucks. its either feast or famine....sucks!
