$2250 for the whole thing.
Will not separate.

An H55f that came out of the half cut we used to convert my Dad's FJ-60 into an HJ-61 (see the thread if you want more pics of the condition of the half cut). Dad had a pretty new H55f (maybe 3,000 miles) when we did the swap, so we kept that transmission and T-case in the truck, otherwise would have used this. I already have an H55f to go with my 1HZs, so it's surplus to our needs.

10 spline (so it fits an F series engine, or H series diesel) input shaft. Unsure of the mileage, but the rest of the half cut was in good shape, and I suspect this truck was a flag truck for the road trains in Australia. I also highly suspect that this H55f was very new to the truck when it had the collision that caused it to get parted out into a half cut. I say that for a few reasons:

1--the clutch was like new
2--the engine's rear main seal was close to new
3--the transmission looked noticeably less dusty than the rest of the truck
4--the gear oil looked normal (which if you've worked on Aussie trucks, is very unusual)
5--the wear on the input shaft--there's very little

Aside from the H55f, it has a 38MM Vacuum Shift split case (it appears to have been rebuilt recently--probably at the same time the H55f was out of the truck), the shift lever for the H55f (for a RHD truck, but I don't know if there's a difference for the H55f--we've got the same in our Blue-Jay 40 with an H55f that came from Australia and it feels normal), and the shift boots which are in good condition.

We cleaned it (and it looks fantastic, see the pics), but it wasn't a huge mess by any stretch of the imagination before we cleaned it. Just the typical Australian red dirt. No leaks.

I can deliver it within a reasonable distance of Idaho Springs, CO (really anywhere within a day's drive, and between Denver and Albuquerque is no problem).

DAMN.........always the good s--t when my money printer is out of ink....

@In2cruisers: Chris, if you need it hauled out to CA let me know... I am planning a late summer trip!

Thanks brother..
Santa would have to be the one bringing it...because its out of the budget... Let me know when your comming....BBQ, Surf, etc

I've got a 78 with stock drivetrain...other than crossmember removal/placement, what else has to be done? I hope I'm not the only goober that doesn't fully understand what he's in for with a swap like this. Got a link to your 40 h55 swap?

A '78 would require:

  • Crossmember work (as you noted)
  • Driveshaft modification (T-case flanges are farther back than stock)
    • Would likely require new flanges somewhere
  • Transmission Tunnel Modification (the shift lever is in a different location than your H42)
  • Parking brake (this split case doesn't have one)
    • Aftermarket Disc Parking Brake
    • Stock split case drum parking brake (rare)
    • Later model (81+) rear axle with integrated parking brake
That's all, AFAIK.

Our H55f in the 40 is a special case. It is mated to a 3B, so I moved the whole engine/transmission/T-case combination forward about 2" to avoid crossmember work, and transmission tunnel modification. Other than that, the rest of it would apply. We had custom driveshafts made, and swapped the flanges on the diffs to universal cruiser drive flanges (in case we ever have to mix and match driveshaft parts).

Overall: easy. And awesome. Love the H55f for so many reasons.
