I have a 1987 fj60 / h42 transmission. Has 230k on the clock. Previous owner said it's always shifted great. And it's sat for 10 years before I got it running. I notice a pretty light grind or poor synchro engagement from 1-2 and some times every so slightly into 3rd. I shift pretty slowly and gently. Fresh 80-90 Brad penn in the trans and t case. I'm guessing my next steps are to bleed the clutch which feels fine and explore replacing the shifter seat. Does anyone have insight on this as a potential remedy? Maybe it dry rotted from sitting so long. Also any info on how to replace it would be great. Some things I've dug up are as easy as removing carpet and twisting the shifter out like it's on a spring loaded detent. Others say the entire top plate will have to be removed. Pic for exact part I'm describing.

make certain the trans is in neutral
I think you only need to remove the shifter boot, actually loosen it and slide up the shifter both inner and outer,
slide boot up,
push down on cap and rotate clockwise, it will pop up because of the spring,
pull out shifter stalk,
remove shifter seat
go back in reverse order

Replacing the shifter seat is as easy as this ^^ and that may cure the problem. Replacing the clutch fluid is a good idea and also a very simple procedure.
