How smooth is 600 compared to a 250?

We just did a weekend trip from Austin to Dallas and back on I35 and the 250 was really bouncy…we were quite disappointed.

All our trips on local highways (to Houston or hill county towns) for the past 9,000 miles and couple off road trips, left us happy with the purchase. But as an interstate cruiser, it’s ended the honeymoon.

A lot smoother. The only nick on the LX 600 is the 22 inch wheels. They put on those on the Luxury which is what I have. It's still a really good ride, but would probably improve with 20s. I was struck at how bouncy the GX 550 was on the highway. It kind of reminded me of the first gen Ford Expeditions.

What’s disappointing is the LX 600 is the same size as GX

Correct. I look at the LX as a bit of a "play pretty" for Lexus. It's hard loaded and over-engineered, with an ultra-high price tag, and Lexus knows full well it is a limited production and sales vehicle. Four years in, there's still not a lot of them out there. But they want it in the market for their image, I suppose.

Some of the comments about the GX feeling cheap and tinny most likely comes down to the heavy sound deadening on the LX. A friend bought a 550OT+ and had a custom shop dynamat (I think) the doors, floor, etc. It is quiet, the doors feel and sound solid, etc. Big difference.

Good point. But it's quite a sad commentary that one would have to take his $80 something GX to a custom shop for some insulation to help it sound more solid. Unacceptable really. We just paid mid $70s for a well-optioned Defender that's built like a tank. It feels it too. Doors thick, close with a thud. No hood fluttering and noisy rearview mirrors.

I’m in the camp of being frustrated by some of the quality concerns on the new GX but after attending a very sparse North Texas Auto Show last week I’d still put the GX in my top 5 for “best in show” which I think says alot about the current state of and trends across the automotive landscape.

As far as Toyota BOF trucks/SUV’s go in North America I’d rank them LX, GX, and LC250. The new 4R felt super cheap inside and plastic fantastic. (I literally scratched those plastic fender flares just running my finger nails across them).

Curious what the others in your top 5 were?

G580, RS6 Avant, GR Corolla, and Accord Hyrbid. Seriously though, Honda did a really good job with it I think. Fully loaded with just enough bells and whistles, intuitive dash with buttons and dials for the important stuff, 45+ MPG all with an MSRP of just over $40k!

Great list. RS6 Avant is a bad boy.

I love me a station wagon. Really wish Audi would offer an off road focused Avant here in the states. We have the A4 and A6 Allroads which are nice but they aren’t really as capable as something like an Outback and definitely not on the same level as a LC or any of it’s siblings.
