I got about 20-21mpg in the GX driving from Tulsa to Denver.

Vs the 12mpg I get in my 200.
Assume that is a lifted and one or two tire size up 200 vs the 250 GX?

On my near stock 200 series (do have a rhino rack for our 18ft hobie tandem island sailing kayak and airbagman airbags for our travel trailer) I get 17 mpg on the highway (without kayak obviously...). At regular vs premium fuel it seems there is really no $$$ saving for the GX550. Here in Houston you would spend slightly more on running the GX. 17 over 21 = 0.81 and $2.49 over $3.33 = 0.74. To be honest, that is not really a driver when you buy a body on frame 200, 250 or 300 series.

bloated 200
You think the 200 series is bloated compared to the 250?

What I do know is that outer dimensions are near identical, yet interior space is better in the 200 (like the front and rear seats overall width and the rear seat space).

same width and 200 series 4.5 cm taller

200 series is 6.5cm longer...

GX is claimed to have stock 21 mpg highway. Is that stock tire setup? Did you adjust both mpgs stated for tire size? How much lift does the 200 series have?

Hey, everyone really likes the boxy Defender and Bronco. Let's get in on the action. Let's make a new, boxy car, shape it like a Defender, run it on the 4Runner platform, put it together as cheaply as we can get by with, and slap a Land Cruiser badge on it. We can probably price it $15K above the 4Runner and get away with it because it says Land Cruiser and it will be so much cheaper than the 200 was. Everyone will think they are stealing something. But we can't release the new 4Runner the same year or everyone will know what we did. We will load up the actual Land Cruiser with options and put it under the Lexus badge and call it the LX 600.
That is 100% what they did. You NAILED it!

Toyota made such a poor decision and produced such poor vehicle that 6-7k people a month (US only) continue to purchase the overpriced hunk of s*** that is the 250. Not sure why they’d do such a thing.
Well, either because the wives love the squared shape new Toyota or because it is the NEW LAND CRUISER and the badge says so! :cautious:

Exactly, the masses do not know it is light duty Land Cruiser PRADO and has never driven a 200 or 300 series.

Most car reviewers typically dodge this aspect as they need to keep a good relation and friendship with the car manufacturers. although some do provide independent review and point out how much of a step down this product is.

Just bigger wheels and some offset change can do it since they made everything “lighter”

Weren't these the people that had a nut back off the lower mount for their front shock?

Those stripes are money.

What are these folks gonna buy instead when they trade them in?
My dealership has a GX 550 OT and a Lexus 600 Luxury trade-ins. The GX traded for an X5 and the Lexus 600 traded for a X7 M60i. Most of these luxury buyers don't keep cars very long and the guy who traded in the 600 with only 3k miles said he found it boring and his teenagers found the 2nd row to small and not comfortable on road trips. Granted he trades in cars every 6-8mo., never satisfied. We are seeing more GX trade-ins(not a lot) and I am beating up trades on the 250 because they are hard to sell pre-owned. We literally don't want them unless it's a steal. Just not seeing the demand and they are popping up pre-owned on lots everywhere. The LX 600 however is in high demand. We had multiple dealers asking to buy it since it's a 2024, but it sold the day after we got it.

Sounds like not much has changed in the luxury SUV segment. Higher performance unibody luxury SUVs drive better on road and usually win in the luxury department compared to a Toyota / Lexus BOF 4x4.

Owner of a LX 600 here. Just drove a GX 550 a few days ago. No comparison between these two vehicles. The GX rides like a Radio Flyer wagon, bouncing to and fro. Much more wind noise. The Toyota 250 is worse than the GX even. Feels even cheaper and noisier. After the new wears off, I see a bunch of GX and 250s on used car lots.

I'm not sure what is going on with Toyota/Lexus. Even my 600 has some wind noise and rattling sunroof cover. I think it's high quality, but I don't know that I could say that it is the best quality out there. That is now debatable.
How smooth is 600 compared to a 250?

We just did a weekend trip from Austin to Dallas and back on I35 and the 250 was really bouncy…we were quite disappointed.

All our trips on local highways (to Houston or hill county towns) for the past 9,000 miles and couple off road trips, left us happy with the purchase. But as an interstate cruiser, it’s ended the honeymoon.

Who knows. I think there are going to be a lot of unhappy people. This is the first time I've really felt that Toyota/Lexus duped their loyal customers.

I was so excited to see and drive the GX and 250 and try to decide between the two. I walked away shaking my head. And somehow, people are lining up to buy these things.

A good friend of mine is a Toyota loyalist - trades at my local dealership here all the time. He bought a 250, traded in his Tundra, drove the 250 a week, took it back last Friday, and asked for his Tundra back. They obliged. And apparently, they are having other customers complain, too.

Not a good look for Toyota.
I’m sorry we don’t all have LX money.
