GX550 & LC250 Tracking Thread

I got my GX550 today. 45 mile drive home it drove as I had hoped and expected. Which is to say, great. While I didn’t push it the power feels very good. Seat comfort is great. In particular like the adjustable thigh support that is on the OT+. Suspension and steering are very good/great. Mine has the HUD and the cool box as factory installed options. I like the HUD, good viewing angles, good brightness. We tried the cool box on the way home and it worked very well on the couple of soda’s we threw in.

Port Installed options included the rails and roof rack. The Lexus rock rails are frame mounted and are solid and for $1K a good value. I’m going to run with them and will upgrade if I feel that is needed. I’d prefer a kick out and 0 degrees.

The roof rack is solid and well integrated. But, as others have noted it makes a distinct wind rumble above 60mph. At least it is not a whistle. Regardless, the roof rack is coming off. I have bad knees and putting anything up there is not my plan. If I don’t have a reason to use it in the coming months I’ll put it on Craigslist. I fully expect it will go on CL, but will decide later.

The ML stereo is good, but I have not played with the minimal sound adjustments at all. Clarity is good, bass is ok. I’m anticipating it will liven up with use. I can also play with my equalizer setting in Spotify to try additional adjustments once there are some hours on the speakers.

On mine as many have noted, the aluminum hood wiggles and has constant small deflections in the wind. I noticed it, 10 minutes later stopped noticing and 10 minutes after that moved to the ‘don’t care’ stage. In other words, it doesn’t bother me. YMMV.

Fuel economy on the drive home came in at a horrid 12mpg. I expect it will get better as it loosens up. I expect it will always be pretty poor for a 2024 vehicle in town and OK at best on the highway.

My GX is a second vehicle for us. Our 5th gen RX 350 hybrid is quiet, comfortable and gets 36 MPG everywhere, all the time. It will continue to be the go-to vehicle for more than 80% of our local driving needs. Generally the GX will be used for road trips, fishing trips, wandering the desert/mountains/skiing and trips to Baja. For work I am either on airplane or WFH so I don’t really have a local work commute (other than UBER to the airport). For the local work travel when I do have to go to LA a couple days a month the GX will be great if I have colleagues or I’ll just take the RX.

So, big picture. Love it. It is exactly as I expected and hoped.

Earth looks nice next to the Nori Green RX. I had my name in for either Earth or Nori on the GX. Nori is a fantastic color for those that have not seen it.

I’ll add pictures to the picture thread once I’m out wandering with it.

July 14 edit. I pulled the roof rack today. easy 20 minute effort. Lifting off the rack is best done with two people. The wind rumble is gone as expected. Still very happy with the GX. I will make back-to-back sound measurements versus our RX with my sound meter. My ear thinks the GX might be a little quieter on 50mph surface streets and similar on the freeway.

Not in the market but I saw my first in real life yesterday. Incognito(?) paint Premium I think. Owner said wait time was minimal because most orders were for captain's chairs in back and she needed bench. No idea if true but very impressed with the look. Exciting times.

Dealer text yesterday GX OT+ finally made it to Texas via rail and should be trucked down to Houston in a few days. Should pick up next week.

Anywhere on the East Coast selling the GX at or below MSRP with no dealer add-ons? I'm getting the "we add a package, but you're getting something for your money, whereas other dealers just to market mark up blah blah blah". Literally adding on $10k of bull**** no one wants, one dealer adding $2k for plastic protectors on front of hood, bumper, and mirrors... gtfoh.

Any good dealers you can point me to?

Edit: Is there a thread or spreadsheet tracking dealers? I feel like we as the consumers should be sharing as much information as possible to force dealers to act in our best interests. A few people simply not buying doesn't send a loud enough message compared to thousands of people directing their business to dealers not padding prices.

I don't have anyone on the east coast, but Inver Grove Toyota in MN was really good to me. Door edge protectors, USB cables, and rubber mats. Nothing too crazy. No dealer markup. Ask for Laurie.

I'm starting to get excited now. My LC LC Heritage Blue/Greyscape is scheduled to hit the dealer next week, They had one there today that somebody backed out of so my sales guy called me to come take a look and a test drive. It was an LC LC Meteor Shower so not what I was looking for but I hadn't driven one yet so I jumped at the chance. It's pretty much exactly what I was hoping for. It had a ride similar to my 4R ORP but with a way more lively feeling power plant and all the updated tech (which was painfully needed in my opinion). Even my wife was a fan. It will unfortunately have 20 inch wheels but I've given up trying to find one (LC LC with prem pkg) in central Ohio that didn't come with 20's. Can't wait.

I’ve got a set of 18” 1958 takeoffs in Indy if want 18s

The one 250 I drove was loud AF at idle. Does anyone else find this annoying?
