Hi all, I have a 2004 Gx470 with over 250k miles. A few years ago It overheated on me once and come to find out it was low on coolant. Filled it up and forgot all about it.

Flash Forward to earlier this week when I got out of the car the coolant over flow was steaming.
Didn’t have any thing with me so got back on the road and a few minutes later the coolant gauge started to rise and more steam again.
Upon further inspection found the radiator was bone dry. Filled it up and made it home.

Once home we bled, serviced and triple checked all was good. Next, we made a 2 hour drive and right at our destination the coolant gauge rose again. Checked the radiator and again it was bone dry with No visible coolant leaks except for the steam escaping from the coolant overflow tube which had removed itself from the reservoir and continued to let out pressure as well as steam for at least an additional 3 minutes. This time I was prepared, Filled it up, bled it and headed back home to address it expecting it to lose more fluid along the way as a head gasket was suspected.

Once arrived at home after an uneventful drive, popped the radiator cap as well as checked the reservoir and they were both topped off and hadn’t lost a drop. Any ideas on an intermittent coolant loss like this?? Thanks in advance!

I'm sure you don't want to hear this, but I think your head gaskets are done. I overheated mine once due to a stuck thermostat and blew the gaskets. It would hold coolant for a while and never overheat again, but eventually, I had to add more. Come to find out, both my HG were blown. These engines do not tolerate overheating in the least bit.
