Meh, MaxTrax are definitely nice, and I don't doubt their efficacy. But I wasn't joking when I said I've had worse driveways than that. Most of my recovery gear stayed stowed away while I shoveled. I didn't even change back into my boots, opting instead to shovel snow in my sneakers. I've had to set up a tent in the snow next to a stuck vehicle. I've even had to hike 15 miles to pavement to hail a 60 mile tow into Ely, Nevada where I spent the next 9 days trying to get our rally car's clutch replaced. This was nothing. Just a little reminder that the stakes are higher than before.I agree that a set of four is ideal. I keep two on my rig all the time and I have another two in the garage for when we're out the the trail, I'll throw the extra two in back.
But again, I have front and rear lockers, MTS and a winch, so I'd have to be in pretty bad shape to not get myself unstuck.
Do you have MTS and/or CC installed? Wondering how the "snow/mud" setting might have worked, or just CC to back out?
I do wonder if MTS could've gotten me out of this, or better yet kept me moving in the first place. A-Trac had been buzzing all day, more in the sand down at Dove Springs than in the snow up on Piute Mountain. I probably would've used every mode MTS offers in one day, so that's fun. I don't know much about Crawl Control except that I tried DAC again on Sunday and ended up riding the brakes lightly just to shut the darn thing up. I really hate DAC. It might save my bacon someday, but not if I avoid using it in the first place.
MTS is still high up my shopping list, even higher than MaxTrax, but it'll take some convincing before I install CC.
