Long term I think I'll have to wrap the GX, not because of trail damage but because of the other colors that look great on the GX, like the yellow they did on that concept a few years back

I've been wanting to do a wrap for a long time. Several reasons I haven't:
  1. About $4,000 for a decent wrap.
  2. They are prone to scratching and ripping in heavy trail brush, which we have a lot of around here in the high country.
  3. I'd have to take off my 150+ lbs RTT with no place to store it during the wrap.
  4. Then the roof rack that has wiring for my rack lights. Same as the RTT, no place to store it.
All of which is a major pain in the poop shoot.

That color looks really good on a GX. I'm going pretty extreme and will use Raptor liner in ODG instead of wrapping it.

IMO which spans more than 50 years of off roading white is the best color for Northwoods pinstriping. Or rather best color to not show it along with dents LOL.

No way a wrap of any type would hold up on the trails I go on. PPF isn't much better a heat gun can help soften the scratches but still can tell in fact think it makes it worse sometimes.

Was at my 4x4 shop in May and someone came in and talked about wrapping his jeep. Everyone in the shop said no just no. He said why not wrap and then put PPF over it? No just no LOL. They said by the time you did all of that you could get a first class paint job done. He asked what was the answer then? The owner waved us all over and opened a side door in the shop and pointed to this

I really got a kick out of that they are mainly a jeep shop. Well most of them LOL.

100%. Don't really care about fuel "economy" 😆

Yeah we didn't get these rigs for fuel economy LOL. Smiles per gallon....

Which may be true, but despite the name, fuel economy isn't a function of the wallet. It's a function of range, and subsequently, my own convenience. Filling up less just takes less of my time. Therefore I try to keep the MPGs in the range of slightly terrible but not single digit.

Same. I also use it as a gauge for how well the engine is running, and I do commute about 500-600 miles a week, so small differences make for realizable savings.

Especially with how light my truck is, relatively.

In all my years I've never had a rig that has broken 20 mpg. When someone does a bumper chop on FB a lot of people jump in and say there goes 2-3 mpg. BS prove it. I measured my MPG on the same trip often pre and post chop. Larger heavier tires but lighter wheels and same weight per corner when it was all said and done. And replaced the factory side steps with Expedition One sliders. Pre work I got 19-19.5 mpg depending on wind, etc. After mods no change:

By now some things I know not to do. A few were experiments but overall very happy. Unless towing then I can knock at the door of single digits.

Which is better than my second gen Taco got towing the same trailer and buggy that would hit single digits. And the GX puts a smile on my face driving it. So convenience I have no clue about, it has always been what it is.

Range in the Sunset Country of Canada and Northern Mn. is critical and I carry four 5 gallon gas cans. Leave Thursday for the Great Northern Side by Side shoot in Northern Wi. and will have to stop for gas. With a trailer it can be tricky with a small station in rural areas due to needing to take up 2 pumps and only a couple of pumps to start with. But you do it long and often enough it becomes normal.

The older I get the less of a hurry I'm in so not really inconvenient. However people in general seem to piss me off more than they used to. Pretty sure they are working harder at it, can't be me.

I was dipping into single digits when I was taking I-25 into winter headwinds. Part of why I modified my commute to 85 was to mellow it out. Slower speed limits, less wear and tear.

Trying to schedule my BMC with Tru Automotive in Denver. Getting measured for custom sliders that Tru recommended.

Should be able to get them welded on before Ouray.

Winch mount should be shipped this week. Need to have the winch installed for advanced recovery training in September

Which recovery class are you taking?

Started the process of fitting up new wheels and tires. Old setup was 275/65/18 duratracs on stock 460 wheels that I put 70k on. New setup is 285/70/17 Mickey Thompson mtz on stock 470 wheels. Both setups will be on a basic 2” Dobinsons lift. A Small 8mm spacer will be used to give more clearance with stock uca. I’m going to trim front fender liners, side steps and rear bumper for sure and will see how the clearance is.

Wheeler Lake was amazing! Two of the Jeeps in our group flopped. I was the only non Jeep. And one of only two that didnt have to winch.

This is a more a can you ...more than practical but this little power bank with an XT30 connector can power a small Alpicool cooler at 24V. I noticed running wattage is in the 10-15W range with some 20-30W and surge at 55W. They are $129 on Amazon but you can series them up to 48V or parallel them as well. It stays under FAA threshold as well so ok to take on planes. It can be submersed in waters a well

[Solar Panel]

Using this portable solar panel to charge via the USB port on that panel which tops at 60W on the USB port but still stays ahead of consumption

Not a good video but gives you an idea of what is connected

Discussion time: Lockers

Who on here has a 460 with locking diffs? Would love some info re: what you went with, paid, etc.
I keep pushing them further down my list because ATRAC is still enough with the mud tires aired down to 12 psi.

@Roody I've been eyeballing the Tandem Offroad "locked and loaded" kit for a while. I'm looking around for local, trusted shops that will either order and install the Tandem kit, or put together a very similar setup for similar price (of parts). Might as well do lockers and regear at the same time.

I may not go with that exact kit, but I am pretty set on E-lockers for generally reliability/low maintenance vs air lockers.

Don't e-lockers have an issue where if you roll back the locker will disengage? Or was that another platform? I thought the ARBs were the only lockers to stay engaged the entire time (I'm sure i'm confusing two different platforms/products).

Are e-lockers really more reliable? or is this generally a mechanical versus electrical preference? I know most OEM applications are electric, but I've also not heard that air lockers are not as reliable.
