The GX is awesome with tons of utility but like most shorter-wheelbase vehicles, it shouldn't be a primary tow vehicle.

Reading the original question my first thought was the GX is a short wheelbase rig you nailed it IMO. The rule of thumb I've gone by for decades with short wheelbase vehicles is 50% of rated capacity in the mountains especially with the chance of high speed cross winds. 75% for the rest of the Country. At most.

My Northstar Trail Boss is 2K with a 600 pound trailer and both the GX and buggy have the aerodynamics of a brick. When they issue a high winds advisory on the plains for high profile vehicles it can get "interesting". And my mpg often hits single digits.

Today… no reason to take the 460 since just a pavement freeway run… but radio cranked & sunroof open..and just because… to get some farm fresh oysters harvested the day before yesterday

Headed up Bow, WA to get 5 dozen oysters from Taylor Shelfish for the home BBQ…

Mike Rowe did a dirty job episode at the place back in 2006

I’ve been going there since the late 80s to pick up discount oysters

I'd be showing pictures of decent seafood and a Weber sidewinder grill too if I could, nicely done!

I've been in the middle of the Country for so long even the Dead Lobster looks good anymore. Staying and hunting an hour South of where all roads end in the Sunset Country of Canada last year the Skipper coming from Boston was going to bring Lobster and\or Oysters to camp. Border Patrol said no but they allowed clams so that is what he ended up bringing for the first night's meal

20+ years living along the Coast (both) I really miss fresh seafood. When I finally retire for good one of the first things I'm going to do is head back to the PNW and the Sound.

No. But I should have. Ive been monitoring my atf and it runs 200-210 just driving around town. Of course around town is 110 degrees.

Air temps are half that here and that is what I run as well. Have the cooler and mount in the garage I need to install it. As well as rip out the 3rd row seats and build my platform yet. Got some news last week and looks like I will not be doing much work on the GX rest of the summer depending on the course of action after the PET Scan tomorrow. But no matter what even if I end up paying someone to do it the tranny cooler is going in and soon. It gets real close to 230° just pulling my buggy up and down the River bluffs, these things do run hot.

I prefer the driving dynamics of towing with a fullsize pickup or fullsize work van, if it's anything over 4k or 5k with any frequency. I don't have a hitch on my GX, and if I needed to tow I would probably rent something to so it with. The only serious towing I have done as a Construction worker or fabricator was with those kinds of vehicles. Then we would go grab parts in my 5 lug taco which was super easy to load.

We have a collapsible hardside camper (4,000# fully loaded) with a dialed WDH. We've done multiple 700 mile days towing it nearly to Canada and down to the Gulf. The 120/150 platform can tow just fine if you set things up right. I probably wouldn't want to tow a full-profile camper with one of these as the MPG would be quite low, and also plan to do a 4.56 re-gear so I can comfortably run at 70 mph with the cruise control on (not really possible now due to constant 4th/5th gear shifting - so my right foot gets a bit tired on those long days).

For anyone who has installed a snorkel, did you have to drill through just the sheet metal on the A pillar or the frame as well? The rivet sticks out quite a bit, I know other brands have screw ins, but it seems kind of shallow all the way around.

I’m going to find an anchor screw to use. This Amazon snorkel got out of control. I’ll do a write up when I finish, but I don’t recommend it.

Can you use shorter rivets? What about a well nut from a kayak shop or hardware store. Snorkels aren't really my thing but I'm pulling for you buddy!

That well nuts looks promising, but I do have a shorter rivet but it still sticks out some. I’m thinking once I pull it in the rivet will sit flush. I’ll check out the well nuts before I rivet. Thanks!

Used the smaller rivets I had. Also had to “customize” the bracket to make the snorkel neck sit somewhat flush. Still gotta trim the bolt holes lower for the snorkel to be able to bolt “flush” against the fender. The directions were not accurate. lol. But whatever, I’ll get it done. Just not tonight 🤣

Whats the heaviest load, biggest boat, or biggest camper, weight wise, that you guys have hauled with your GX? I've been looking at SeaRay boats and had a guy with a 23 footer tell me my little lexus wouldn't haul his 4400lb boat + trailer. I understand that with a 1500lb trailer, fuel, passengers, etc. I would be right at the published limit. I'm 100% confident she would pull and stop the load (with trailer brakes). I know it's hard for these guys with big diesel trucks to understand you don't need a 15,000 lb towing capacity just to pull a lawn mower. Just wondering what your experience was. Thanks!
What kind of weight are these SeaRays and how far/and over what will you be towing?

Throwing my hat in the ring on this BS thread. Picked up this rig a few weeks ago (2021 premium with 30k miles) and looking forward to building it out. Mildly to start, but see where it takes me. I made a post in the pics thread, too. I'm new to the high-off-the-ground vehicles.

Congrats on your new toy!
Regarding sitting high, trust me you'll get used to it. You'll get SO used to it that when you get in a low vehicle again, you'll constantly be wanting to try and see around the vehicle ahead of you.
I love sitting high and being able to see a few cars ahead of me! When I do get in a low car, I feel like I'm constantly on the edge of the lane trying to look ahead.

My last ride was a 2012 Audi A4 Avant that was S4 swapped with all sorts of racecar bits, and it was like sitting on the ground. It's in the driveway next to the GX, and the roof line of the Avant is at the same level as bottom of the driver's window on the stock GX.

I have an affinity for either lifted offroaders or road squeeggees. So I get it.

Fun Entrance Ramp this one was good. The BOV was very loud with the oem exhaust.
