My folks have one too. It's handy, but cost about 2X what my GX did. It is great for hauling deer out of the woods and doing other work around their 80-acre property. In the future, I could get one, but they are not road-legal here, so you have to tow them elsewhere to have a fair amount of fun.

Not hard to throw a lot of money in a UTV or even Quad these day... neighbor of mine has the most loaded Ranger with tracks and plow.. over $50k new

My '22 Yamaha Grizzly with Camso tracks would easily pick up a used 470 or high mileage 460 from a cost perspective but it serves it's purpose that the GX could not in the winter for my use case

That would be the new Ranger XP1500 Northstar. Polaris is a Mn. company and UTV's are street legal outside of the cities in Mn. you see more of them than vehicles in many towns. And pretty much every gas station has oil and air filters to do maintenance on them.

Couple of years ago sold my Northstar XP1000 for a Northstar Trail Boss which was top of the line at the time. Additional 1" of ground clearance, better seats and self leveling rear suspension just like the GX Lux. Thought $30K was outrageous that was what I paid for my 13 Taco TRD Baja T|X new. But sold the old Northstar for a stupid good price due to COVID. Was definitely staying with heat and AC of the Northstar it is common to run both in the same day come Sept. and Oct.

Last year they came out with the XP1500 largest engine of any UTV and 15" of ground clearance. $50K though.... Maybe if I hit the lottery someday LOL. Already feel a bit self conscious at times with a Northstar and Lexus as a tow vehicle. Tracks are illegal in Mn. don't get me started on that, ugh. So only use it in spring and summer for sporting clays and fall for bird hunting.

Used it last weekend for the Midwest Double Gun shoot and will for 3 days straight for a shoot in Wi. at the end of the month with some friends. Everyone calls shotgun to ride in the cab with the AC when the bugs are thick, which they often are due to so much water everywhere. The old one, I need to update pictures with the new and GX

No regrets but that XP1500.... Stainless steel CVT belt that doesn't even require first inspection until 15k miles.

Back to snorkels... The Green Party in Mn. in addition to outlawing tracks on ATV\UTV's was able to outlaw snorkels on them here as well. To protect the wetlands is the battle cry. Which is a shame there are lots of snorkel options for the Ranger. And they are all protected from trees

The Amazon snorkel arrived. I'll take pictures of it this weekend, maybe even Friday after work. It doesn't look too bad, but the neck bracket came with rivets, so I'll have to see if I'm going to rivet it or find some bolts to mount it. I also found a video of the snorkel I bought installed on a GX460. I'm going to try to install it this weekend if time permits.

The Green Stuff pads were a hit on the GX so they are going on the 4Runner.

How did it go? I saw an install where the template wasn't quite right. Hope you checked that.
My son came over last Sunday so I stopped before I made any cuts. I’m going to try to finish this weekend after I do a valve adjustment and transmission flush on my wife’s car. And I’ll definitely double check the measurements, lol. The instructions are not good.

Whats the heaviest load, biggest boat, or biggest camper, weight wise, that you guys have hauled with your GX? I've been looking at SeaRay boats and had a guy with a 23 footer tell me my little lexus wouldn't haul his 4400lb boat + trailer. I understand that with a 1500lb trailer, fuel, passengers, etc. I would be right at the published limit. I'm 100% confident she would pull and stop the load (with trailer brakes). I know it's hard for these guys with big diesel trucks to understand you don't need a 15,000 lb towing capacity just to pull a lawn mower. Just wondering what your experience was. Thanks!

"Can do" and "can do without stressing this old dude out" are two different things. I'm an occasional tower, and my utility trailer is about all I "like" to tow behind my GX. For real towing, my daughter's 2WD F350 dually with 7.3L diesel gets the job done effortlessly. A couple times per year over flat, short distances? Sure. Over mountains and on freeways regularly with tons of traffic? This dude would pass...

I've pulled a 20' camper weighing approximately 4000 lbs loaded with brake control, sway control and weight distributing hitch from the mid-Atlantic region to the YNP entrance near Mammoth Hot Springs. It sucked but was worth it. You have to pay attention to everything all the time and discomfort will be the norm.
If you are talking about trailering your (4400lbs + trailer) boat down the driveway to your boat launch, you will probably do fine...if longer than that, you are probably using the wrong vehicle.
@jakemccurdy may be able to chime in as I think he has pulled a heavier camper some distance.

The GX is awesome with tons of utility but like most shorter-wheelbase vehicles, it shouldn't be a primary tow vehicle.

Today… no reason to take the 460 since just a pavement freeway run… but radio cranked & sunroof open..and just because… to get some farm fresh oysters harvested the day before yesterday

Headed up Bow, WA to get 5 dozen oysters from Taylor Shelfish for the home BBQ…

Mike Rowe did a dirty job episode at the place back in 2006

I’ve been going there since the late 80s to pick up discount oysters

I maxed mine out for our last Sedona trip. ~6k lbs box trailer from phoenix to near flagstaff. Elevation change of about 5k ft over 150ish miles. TLDR - it was a pain and netted 8mpg’s. She’s no tow hog.

Last weekend I went up to the rim and brought my buddies black series fold over down the hill after he wrapped his truck around an elk. No wind resistance and around 4k lbs made it feel like a lot better match for regular use.

Tranny temps got to 230 intermittently.

It’s one of the simpler mods and fairly cheap if you go 3rd party cooler. It can drop you 10-30 degrees or more depending on what you use.

No. But I should have. Ive been monitoring my atf and it runs 200-210 just driving around town. Of course around town is 110 degrees.
This post documents my install. Pretty easy to do and works well. I think the t-stat on the transmission cooler/warmer thing is around 190F. I didn't feel the need to get an additional cooler with more valving as the system works pretty well anyway.

Retired for the evening. I was sweating bullets in my garage making the cuts and I forgot my carbide burr bits at work so I’m going to have to buy some tomorrow to hog out the hole a little. Then I just gotta make sure it looks good and drill out the small holes and finish the install.
