I'm planning to camp and Lylia may come with me. At this time, I'm planning to arrive at the campground late Friday afternoon since it's first-come-first-served availability. Dale, Dan, John, BK - how can you miss a great opportunity to get out?

THE PLAN:

Everyone will meet up at the Brandywine Campground

Dry River Ranger District - Brandywine Recreation Area

at 10:00 am, Saturday, June 7. Camp if you like. From there we'll do Second Mountain and whatever other trails, time permitting. Then we'll head back to Brandywine (the town) or thereabouts for grub. :steer:

76fj40,

What time do you plan on leaving on Friday?

Thornton,

I was thinking of leaving at 2 or 3 to get to Brandywine in time to stake out a good campsite. let me know if you want to caravan.

Bob

Well, it looks like I'm probably out. I just found out that I have to come into work on the 7th to test some new database system. Unless I can get out of it, I'm screwed.

Bob,

That sounds like a plan to me. Let me know where you want to hook up. I'm about 8 miles from the 234 bypass exit off 66. I've already got it worked out to get out of D.C. early that day.

Tom

Tom,

I'm just off 29 between New Baltimore and Warrenton, 8 miles from 66. We can meet at my place and head down 29 or we can meet at the Sheetz in Haymarket and head out on 66. Just let me know which works best for you.

Bob

I might be in.

Depends on the new project going on at work for me as well.

Probably gonna have to work this Sat. and havn't yet been told about next week.

Sure would be nice for the 80 to stretch its legs a little.

we will see.........

Jamie,

I want to see the new 80, just call in sick if need be.

We (me and the Junior) might be in. Tired of doing home projects in the weekends, it's time to check out the good ole GWNF. :D.

Jamie,

you know thats not an option..........................

my father didn't bring me up that way, nor did you your own kids......

I'll do my best.

sides dat maybe you'll see it sooner than you think............

Bob,

I can meet up with you at your place and we can take 29. Just send me directions.

Tom

I'm going, and will be camping Saturday night. See everybody at Brandywine on Saturday morning.

Dale

I'm in for a day trip - as i mentioned earlier, I have private camping land available with running water and electricity.

As far as a meeting spot, can we meet somewhere short of going over the mountain? I don't know if my junk can make it that far :grinpimp:

I would propose meeting right on 33...or something like at the rawley springs park

I have no problem meeting in Rawley Springs since I'll be coming from the Harrisonburg side anyway, but how much backtracking will the Brandywine folks have to do to get to Second Mountain? Do you have a proposed landmark to meet? Sorry, I don't know the area. The Brandywine folks can still meet at 10:00 am and then everybody meet at Rawley Springs at say, 10:30 am.

Anybody have a strong opinion on this?

yeah....just look for this ugly thing:

it will hopefully be at the trail near the base of the mountain at 10:30. How about where the old salt shed used to be on the south side of the road?

any interested in doing the river/low lying areas before second mountain?

bk

BK,

I haven't been to GWNF in years but I do have a vague recollection of where the salt shed used to be; I'm sure we can spot your POS from 33 so that works for me. 10:30? why not noon so I can get more beauty sleep? Why not join us camping, I might even give you a beer.

I'm fine doing the river first - I'm up for the challenge!

I was leaning towards Brandywine only because Lylia will most likely be with me. Does your place have a crapper and or shower? One out of two might swing it for Lylia.
