Company canoe trip was planned last week for this weekend so there's that
and it's a good ride for me just for a day trip. Pretty much did it for me.
Gun range day sound doable though.

So if remember from the conversation Monday night we're meeting at the Tanger Mall at 8AM, is this correct????????????????????????

how long of a drive is it? mapquest says 3hrs, is that correct?

Is anyone planning on coming other then Dave, Ted, my Dad, and I? Is the location too far away or what is the problem other then the date?

It's 90% highway/interstate driving so 3hrs sound a little high to me. Last time I went up there it took about 2 hr 20 mins from my house in Cumming.

Yes, Tanger Mall at 8AM.:bounce:

Hi guys,
I'm a newbie, just bot 08 4-Runner. Was at last Fuddruckers meeting and told I would have fun at Gulches, but advised I don't have the clearance yet to play with the big boys :frown: ; so, I should try to drive up with the group but walk around the park or accept any gracious offers to ride in the park with anyone.

So I'm trying to get a kitchen pass from the boss to go there Sat. If so I'd like to meet with y'all 8am Tanger if thats ok.

The Gulches is as difficult as you want it to be, plenty of bypasses if you want a go around. If you think you're getting over your head just meet everyone at the bottom of the hill. You will definitely have a good time.

I had my 4runner 97 stock at Morris Mountain (similar) and went through fine. There were plenty of bypasses for the difficult stuff that I took many took their vehicles through... so I got great pics of everyone else.
Just remember to carry some safety equipment, first aid kit, cb radio, Shovel, boots, rubber mud boots, a few spare tools, any recovery gear you may have at the time for just in case.
I tend to believe in redundant back up systems; rumor has it I carry all my gear in a 40 foot trailer! LOL!

PS: should I bring my machete?

You will be fine at Gulches, I went in Feb. and there was a stock fj62 and some stock FJ Cruisers that had a good time. You will be able to get around Gulches and see the "big boys" play on the other rocks.

As time goes and you gain experience you will find that ground clearance is helpful.

Ask Pillguy he knows. At Morris Mtn. a couple months he high centered his Runner on a pine cone (or was it an acorn?) anyway it doesn't matter. He went home and started lifting just so he could clear the low obstacles and prevent such embarrassment. In fact, we're still awaiting the debut of his 4-Runner version 2.0 :flipoff2:

It actually was a pine cone, biggest one I ever saw. Hopefully now, those pesky pinecones will be less of a problem. Did you see my final build pics?
One question though, what CB channel will we be on?

Thanks for the tips pill, tk. I'll plan to see everyone at Tanger 8:00 am.

yea yea, gotta wash my hair. No, I have to do my nails, well that's not it either. :flipoff2: Josh--take it easy on the new guy, yea right!!!!

Anyway, a little taste from The Gulches last July, my favorite spot

Is that a desert country?

well, I met the crew at the tanger outlets a bit late this morning and we made our way to the Gulches. I was surprised at how out of the way and dusty it was. It reminded me of Lawrence of Arabia, at least the dust did when we first went out on the trails. The only thing missing were the camels and a few bedouin nomads.... LOL!

I gotta say i had a great time and appreciated the guidance along the tough sections of the trails. It was a bit unnerving to have you truck balance on two wheels at certain sections, more like a wild rollercoaster ride in certain areas. I will get the pictures up sometime tomorrow.

Take care,

Andrew

Good to know I can live vicariously through you guys, thanks for the pics. Need more!!!!!

Josh, did he run circles around you again?????????
