OK, so I finally got the pics up online from this past weekend. My girl, our dog and I went out to Guadalupe Canyon for our anniversary. Well the dog just tagged along. :D This actually ended up being our dogs first off-road trip. He is not a fan of car rides and we have to drive with the windows down so he stays somewhat happy. The trip there ended up being quite an adventure stopping for the dog to walk around, stopping for the dog to puke right before Calexico, stopping for gas in Calexico, stop for directions in Mexicali, and finally a huge sand storm for about 4 miles in the middle of the dry lake bed with zero visibility. I literally could only see a foot in front of my hood and was going 2 mph. So with all of that a 3 hr drive turned into a 4.5 hr maybe even 5hr drive. But once I was sitting in that rock hot spring tube with a pacifico that was the finish line for me!
To jump back a second, while we were packing up the cooler and dumping the ice in my girl and I were both sniffling and medicated with alergies or head colds and thought we may bail and forefit the money on the camp site. But I quickly kept moving thinking of that finish line and realizing that if we stay home we will spend all weekend in bed and definately get sick or go to Baja and keep trucking through the sniffles. Plus there is a little thing I believe in called Baja Magic that I knew would heal us.
So enough story time, here are the pics. My GF was a little pissed that there were more pics of the cruiser than her! Oh well, this week is mine and the cruisers anniversary. :grinpimp:

First off, representing!

Sat morning

We stayed at my 3rd choice, LaJolla A. It was fine for the two of us but the tent barely fit and we lucked out because we didn't have neighbors in LaJolla B till' sat evening around 6:00.
PS never stay in LaJolla B it has no privacy and the tub is so narrow it would be uncomfortable for even 2 people.

Our dog miserable in the heat, and it wasn't even that hot, what a pansy.

Before we left Sunday and had to clean the shoes on the cruiser

Oh and more proof of Baja Magic bumper repair.

And this was before the trip.

Looks like a good time, thanks for sharing.

Nice pics. I have two questions.
1. What made you go to Guadalupe Canyon vs other campgrounds?
2. Were you able to see how much Pemex gas across the border was?

I went to Guadalupe for the natural hot spring tubs. I was expecting a little nicer when driving up but once you are in your camp site, you kick back and you realize how beautiful and relaxing it is.

I did not pay attention to the price of PEMEX. I filled up in Calexico on the way down to avaoid putting PEMEX in the tank, it just leaves a funny smell for weeks to me. I was actually able to make it all the way back home after Guadalupe canyon and sitting in line at the border for an hr and 15 min from my fill-up on the way there in Calexico. Pretty decent I think.

Got some questions!

Was this your first time there? Curious why you had to settle for #3 choice? Did you NOT make reservations?

I make reservations everytime i go (been 3x) and will only stay at the SAN MARCOS camp because of the awesome privacy and the hottub is huge!

Did you do the hike to the waterfall? Its amazing!

Did you take the washboard road in or cut through the lake? We were HAULING ass across the lake bed and almost hit a burnt car carcass that was almost totally covered in sand!

Nice Pics!

Oh, and i will NEVER under ANY circumstances ever cross in Mexicali again! F that place! :flipoff2:

BlueTribal,

Where abouts is Guadalupe Canyon? On the way to San felipe? I would like to know and put in in places to visit. Nice Pics.

Looks like you had a good time. I've got to add this place to my list to visit.

I did make reservations but it was only like 3 wks in advanced. And LaJolla A is pretty secluded but ElDorado is up on the hill across the road but the trees and boulders at La Jolla A keep it out of sight for the most part. We were happy with it and I would recomend it for a couple. Oh and it is $100 less than San Marcos so that weighs in when you don't have anyone else chipping in.

No, we went up there not feeling well so we just relaxed all day Sat. We took a short walk to the water crossing around 2:00 in the afternoon and it was pretty HOT so I doubt my wuss dog could have made the 2mi hike.

No, we took the dry lake bed and about 2mi into the lake going about 50 I hit a rut that bottomed out the suspension, I thought I flattened both front tires. But the Cruiser kept rolling and then we hit the dust storm. So not only would I not take the dry lake bed after rains but I wouldn't take it on windy days either.....

Yeah, Mexicali is pretty confusing and we got a little lost coming and going but we eventually found our way. With my dog the turns on hwy 2 would have made my dog puke so going thru Calexico and Ocotillo.

The owner of Guadalupe Canyon sells a map that shows you the way from Guadalupe Canyon to San Felipe on his site Guadalupe-Canyon.com for $15. Way over priced in my opinion, I would think that between Google Earth, a GPS, and a Cruiser you could figure it out.
San Felipe is in the bottom right hand corner of this map.

Yeah, I didn't notice it till' we got back to Calexico to un-stick ourselves from the leather after the border wait. So I thought it had popped out from the heat of the exhaust sitting in line at the border. But looking back at the pictures from the trip it was popped out Sat morning. I do recall hearing a noise while driving on the dry lake bed Friday that I couldn't explain, so I am guessing that was the noise.

Same thing happened to mine from Moab (although it wasn't quite as bad as yours was). When I crushed it in, I tried as hard as I could to pop it back out with my hands but no luck. The first morning back in sunny SD and it had popped out on its own:D
