Like renting multiple bays with annual contract?

Like renting an old shop or small industrial space that is private, with some LC swag and a beer fridge. Something similar to Alvis's shop, but clean and organized.

Well that all depends on how deep peoples pockets are. I was doing some modeling where "members" for lack of a better term are paying ~$1500/year, with a $1000 initiation fee. If we got 10 "members", that would put $10,000 towards setup costs (Lift, Air Compressor, etc) and $15,000/year for rent/utilities. Maybe make half of the initiation fee transferrable after the first year like if you found someone that wanted to buy you out, they would pay $1000, $500 of which would go back to the exiting party. I haven't found a good way to make this flexible or cheap without expanding it to 20-30 people which dilutes the available garage time. If someone has an idea of how to do this cheaper, I'm all ears.

I have a hard time spending that when I consider what $1.5k/yr gets me in tools for my own shop. I think we are much better off having a solid tool library with a group of folks willing to help each other wrench and share existing space. The liability of letting me loose in someone else's shop should also be a huge consideration.... I almost light my own place on fire a few times a year.

That's what adult supervision is for. (Please note I am NOT in any way adult supervision) But someone can be the voice of reason.

I think you guys are starting to see why I’ve always wanted to do this but never have. 😂

that first one is a winner

That's too far for me.... I want to be in... but I would rather spend the money on a lift for my sideyard and maybe even a kegerator so @JunkCrzr89 will actually hangout with me for once

I am definitely interested but the hanging out part concerns me just a bit.

How about this?

Biggest downside I see is you would be inside someone else's business open only during their hours. Sunday and I see it's closed. Nights and weekends are when a lot of people who work have time to work on their vehicles.

Ouch. Been there and they would need at least double the garage space they currently have just to warehouse their parts and vehicles on the property.
I very well understand the problems related to parts collecting and keeping things organized. Goin on ten years since I bought my last Land Cruiser. Since then sold three so moving in the right direction. Can make the space for maintenance projects. It's the space for a frame off restore I lack. Not something that would work in a group space.

Interesting idea, but ultimately someone is going to be stuck with the significant burden of being the head administrator. Do to the inherent risk of working on vehicles, (especially after a few ), it would probably be best to have this venture under an LLC. So now someone has to form the LLC, file the taxes, deal with insurance, collect dues, chase down delinquents, manage the scheduling, clean up after an irresponsible person covers the place in Birfield grease, etc. Said person may need to be compensated for their efforts as part of the annual dues. If you figure that a member might use the facilities 7 days (?) a year, then you could split the cost across 52 members.

I think I would be inclined to beef up the loan-a-tool program and let people fend for themselves for the garage space. As for socializing...that's not allowed anymore.:flipoff2:
