Eh eh, I thought the rotting part would get your attention!

Yup, you probably have it: the dreaded weatherstrip gap on the rearmost vertical side of the rear side windows! Likely due to rubber shrinking, but provides an easy way for water to get under the rubber seal and start rotting your sheet metal, unseen by you. Shudder!

Sooo, one could fill it all up with goop, but will look terrible. Better is to get a small piece of original seal, cut to length and fill the gap with that plus some unseen goop.

CDan has very kindly offered to cut up a seal and sell the pieces prorata. Cost is about $50 for the whole part I think. Probably 6' long I imagine, so could accommodate upwards of 30 people. There'd be some shipping costs involved and lots of IOUs to Dan for being a good sport. He'll likely fill in with details after this.

Why don't all of you who are interested in this just post here with how much length you'd need so we can see if it's worth considering?

I only need about 2" total.

Anybody else?

Eric

PS: goes without saying but if there are more applicants than inches, we go by chronological order of posts... :D

I'll look when when I get home tonight.

here's another thought. Jumping the gun a bit, but this could end up being a real pain for Dan. If we do this, we should probably do something like sending him preaddressed prestamped envelopes so it's not too much of a PITA for him. Or, of course, combine this with a major order worth at least 200 lbs of dogfood!

ooooo, here is a better thought. This could be AmToy promotion of the month: Buy $100 worth, get an inch.... :D

Count me in! I think having to measure how much I need is grounds for me to drive the Cruiser to work tonight! Dont think my girls gonna like that :D

If someone could post a pic of this rotting weather strip area i will check mine out and see also.

Ah, thanks. I'll take a look at mine, but i don't think i have nearly the gap as the one pictured.

I do not know how much of it is usable as cut pieces. I think there may be some relief cuts in it at the corners. I'll get one in and examine it and report on how many repair sections one will yield. That will also answer the how much $ question.

gap size probably matters little as far as how much water will go in there, I would think...
If it's open, it's open...

that's right, there are some cuts in there, probably 4" or so at each corner, but one could slice in between the cuts for smaller pieces, probably.

thanks for helping with this, Dan!

I would need abotu an inch or so, 2 might be safer, but how would I install it on the left side of the LX? that window does not open

The LH rear glass is indeed fixed in a LX450. It has an antenna, likely for telephone, attached to it. In order to replace the strip on the driver's side the window would have to come out of the vehicle and be dis-assembled.

ooooh, boy!

LOL!

I thinks there's only a wedge/pin that holds the window from sliding, couldn't you remove that and just open it?

Bah! Just pump some silicon-like sealant goo in there and be done with it. :flipoff2:

I'd check to see if it's leaking before doing anything with it anyhow.

The screw that holds the stop in goes in from under the frame. It looks as though the frame has to come out to get to the screw.

My LX450 has less than 1/16" gap on both windows.

Does the rear-most window on the driver's side opens on the LC?

Yes, it does.

fake window???
more proof that the LX is a :princess: toy? (as if needed... :D )
Geez, guys, rip that phone antenna out of there and get a working window. Your dogs, kids, and guests will love you for it!
