Finally remembered to take a couple pics of what I did to catch the drippies.
Real simple drip catch made from oil quart container tacked to wall or cabinet. The tops with the cap allow you to drain it out once every couple years.:hillbilly:

can you use these things one-handed with normal size hands...?

I really like this little gun I bought ages ago. It is maneuverable while you're squushed under a car/truck.
It's very easy to use with one hand.
I will definitely be installing a drippy catch can!! Man, that is a beautiful solution!
I used to have a Blue Point (Snap-on) gun but I let a Master mechanic borrow it and he totally effed it up. I think he didn't know how to replace the grease tubes because he was a Honda mechanic and they don't have grease fittings.

This is what you use for equipment because you may go through a whole tube every day depending on the piece of iron. No way could you handle a trigger job unless your name was Popeye.
The Lincoln tips are very good and will stay while you hold the gun and pump with the other hand, or use the metal solid stub and push on it as you pump.
For greasing a cruiser a trigger squeeze is probably good enough and won't wear you the fxxx out.

Grease Gun Haters unite!

The grease gun is without competition as the most despised tool I own!

Every time I use one, something goes wrong, I try and fix it, and within minutes everything within reach has grease all over it, including me!

Taking apart a grease covered grease gun is like wrestling a greased boa constrictor.

They're uncooperative, and they bite, and they're also uncooperative. (no, that is NOT redundant)

It's that spring loaded piston design that's the core of the problem. It'll hurt you if you don't watch out, and regardless, it's going to launch a glob of grease farther than you'd think reasonable. At the very least, it'll drip some gooey oil on your shoe.

Changing grease type is just unreasonable. It takes forever to clean one up.

I have one I've had for probably 30 years. No idea of the brand but it has never failed me. I'll have to check it out. I too have the messy grease guns. Mine have never leaked out the rear just out the nozzle. I shove it in a 1 little plastic soda bottle that has the end cut off.

Cleaning them isn't THAT bad. You just need a good degreasing agent. Like diesel fuel, that purple cleaner stuff, or other such agents.

That being said, I don't LIKE my gun, but I haven't had to throw it across the room... I have, however, wasted a lot of grease with them. In fact, for those of you who saw my time-lapse video, you'll probably note how I used a chisel tip to take the damn grease out of the end of the container because it decided it was time to stop pumping. I got a good bit out of it still... grrrr.

In relation to the won't empty tube completely problem, whenever I change cartridge or have problems with air I simply undo the thread the holds the cartridge in half a turn or so. This lets the air out past the seal. Only found out about this trick a year or two ago and has helped me out no end.

WARNING - thread revival and NEWBIE alert!

Never owned a grease gun, but need to both check and probably put some moly grease in the front knuckles as it's been a few years and about 30K since I rebuilt, repacked the front knuckles.

Here goes with the newbie questions, some gun related some grease related.
1. I have the moly grease from the knuckles and the amsoil grease used to pack the bearings. Which is best in the zerks along the driveshaft. FSM shows 4 grease points.
2. If it's different grease than goes in the knuckles is it best to have two guns as it seems that cleaning these things is a PITA based on reading here.
3. Don't mind the $40-45 for a gun. Are they self packing tubes? The moly grease I used for the knuckles comes in jars, not a tube.
4. Empty cartridges available to pack with your particular grease?

There, see, complete newbie questions.

TIA!
