Do our trucks GPS systems update themselves with current info or do they need to be updated by some program at the dealership?

Several times mine has not shown roads which are a couple or few years old.

They do not automatically update.

Toyota sells an updated GPS DVD. The DVD slot is in the glove compartment.

I am not sure how frequently Toyota releases an updated disk, but I would imagine it is probably at least yearly.

This was all told to me by the dealership when I bought my 200.

Well I be dammed.

I was hoping this thing wasn't DVD based. That blows........

MS, how is your ball club going to wrap the season up?

BTW, my iFjone 6 came in, so I'm ready to install my direct connect player/charger to the back of the factory unit. I need to find that video you posted on taking the unit out.

I bought the 6+ iPhone and am already thinking I went too big. It's a monster of a phone.

I went with the 6, the 6 plus is way too big!!!:D

My dumb ass figured there was no way a phone could be too big. I never even looked at either the 6 or the 6+, just called Verizon and ordered two of the 6+'s.

When they arrived at my office and I opened the box I could only laugh.

Were hurting right now; we've lost a lot of good players to injury. :bang:

We've somehow manage to win the last three games in ugly fashion with our injured back up quarterback....... but our starter will be back on the field this coming Saturday.......

What are your teams? I'm guessing by your locations, you won't like mine. :)

The DVD is correct for the US spec models through 2011 model year. Starting with 2013, the update is either through Techstream or via a USB stick (I am not sure which). Perhaps @beno can shed light on the 2013+ setups ....

Ole Miss Rebels (alma mater)
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (wife's family's alma maters)
New Orleans Saints (gotta support dem saints)

Clemson here.....

I actually like UGA, if that's your team. Wife graduated from UGA and I've probably been on average to two of their home games each season for the past 25 years. Lots of friends there. Plenty of great times there, and not just at football games.

If you're pulling for the nerds, Bobby really surprises me sometimes. It's one reason I'm glad Clemson has Watson back this weekend. Although I do find it odd that Bobby rewarded the Yellow Jackets with rings when they won over the Dawgs a few years back.

Oh, and The Varsity's food blows............

Oh now you've gone and done it...

And now, I will try and not post anymore non-technical stuff.

Thanks for clarifying. If the Techstream is used to update now on the 2013+ models, must you purchase the updated maps to upload with the stream, or are they free and available online?

So I need to Google "Toyota GPS DVD" and buy these things I guess....... or is this something that should really be purchased at full pop from my dealership?

It would be very illegal to burn a copy of a DVD that someone with a newer generation had. That would be very dishonest and you would be a very bad boy if you did that, so don't get any big ideas. I will speak no more on the subject. :hmm:

Just thinking out loud here, but I would think the answer to the above question and others would most likely be found in the Club Lexus Fourms as they share the same GPS units/software, and there are a lot more owners of Lexus sedans than 200 series TLCs.

Here is a link a found. I don't feel link sifting through 9 pages of BS though.

Just FYI though, an updated DVD is about $200.

My understanding is you pay for the maps.

Or goto your friendly MUD OEM parts vendor and see what quality customer service really is ..... paging @beno

My 200 originally came with the single cd non nav, dealer here fitted this nav unit that turnee out to be an original toyotq add-on upgrade for the middle east market. Maps are on an sd card

That makes things easy.
