Started on the gauge panel.. THEN PROJECT CREEP SET IN...:hmm::hmm:

Dash is torn apart. I may pull a "NUTTY" this week and do something CRAZY! I have a customer (you all know who he is..) that is wanting a "CRAZY A$$ CUSTOM" dash. So, I may experiment a little.

Anyhow.. here are a few pics from this morning.

Yeah me either. But it will come and just as you start to get what's going on with all the wires, it will be done.

Imagine: Sheet metal, rivets, hex heads, welded seams/lines, driver's curve similar to the 62, passenger's with a smaller/more subtle curve; utility/function over aesthetics; metal cluster panel with similar fab cues, remeasured/cut for a certain set of gauges.

Let's say said dash was fabricated - the new owner could powder coat, cover with material, paint, or any combination of the three, or leave bare.

Mama always said, 'Life's a box o'chocolates', lol =)

I think the electrical would be up to the end user - if such a mysterious dash happened to be fabricated...just saying =)

Very possible, but no 62 template...

I'm hoping to tie back into the factory harness.. and get it back to "AS NORMAL" as I can.

Ahhh, to have room inside the dash. Almost forgot what it looked like. Completely different ball game in an 80.

Cheers

True, I forgot how much free area was under there.

Ah...most noble one. . .my idea + strokes from yr magical-like fabrication handiwork = no template needed. Approximate a length/rise of the 'hump' or if you're really feeling gutsy, make a mirror image on the passenger side (a double-hump). The passenger side could have a slide or foldout tray, usb slots, retractable or flexible led reading lights, etc.; there could be a metal-skelontanized grab handle.

I'll start some sketches this weekend.

This is another realm - and one that I would pay dearly for someone to 'accept the mission'. I know the individual harnesses are available - the goal would be to recreate the factor wiring but with added connections, relabeled, for things like gauges, lights, usb, etc. - the end product being defined by what the customer wants in his control center. s***. . .even a made from new exact copy of the oem harness would be worth its' weight in gold (for me, anyway).

I called SOR on this one. $1200 to $2000 to redo the harness, front to back.

I have one thought in mind... HA TOO FUNNY!!!

It'll have to wait a few days, got a bumper to start Monday..

J

LMFAO. . .classic. . .like getting a text msg reply today from (name withheld) stating, "...you're an ass-clown..". No worries on the timeline, J - weeks, months, even a year down the road...if you're willing to take on this project, I'll commit to waiting & financially.

btw - if necessary, I'll find a used 62 upper and donate it to you for R&R =)

I have the j62 and covet the j60's dash top, easier to mount things to its flat surfaces.

At what price point would a custom "freak of nature" dash cap need to be at to make this enticing?

Example: My interior shop quoted me $1000 for a fiberglass/material upper dash.

What would I be willing to pay for a metal fab'd work of freaking art?

Hmm...

Name your price. $1500? $2000? $3000?

Seriously (see above numbers), if said builder was including wiring of dash harnesses, I'd say it would be well worth your time. And yes, I'm flexible even on the numbers quoted above. I'm on the skinny until I get back from Peru...after I return, it's GAME ON for the FJ60!

$5000, $6000...including door panels, qtr panels, tailgate panel?

$7000, $8000, $9000...full custom interior...and I ship you my truck?

3 months, 6 months, 12 months...timeframe doesn't really matter to me. I'd rather wait in agony for her return - in all of her glory, custom fab'd interior complete vs. settling for something I really don't want. I'll follow your parameters/limitations.

Heck...trailering from you to Tor would be much cheaper than sending her from NOLA, lol.
