There are always several factors. Just like in 2007-2008, there were several compounding factors. ( a balooned housing market which turned mid 2007, 3 fold fuel costs depleting the discretionary income of the middle class and inevitably mortgage default fears, and derivatives affected by those fears/ revaluations. Oil crashing the Houston economy, and the savings and loan bust inevitably, etc. Why drill for oil, when you can buy it for cheaper than you can "pull it out of the ground." Right lee?(hmm what if we sit on our oil an wait for a higher price)
My dad was a successful builder and was one of the few here who was able to stay here and not leave the state for work when the housing market tanked.

I do. I have found the gas station on the corner of Brodie and Slaughter has the cheapest around at 3.27 (5/13).

$2.98/gal regular 10% corn gas at Sam's and Costco
