That is because you didn't expect it would need an engine. You were hoping for a simple fix, like new starter contacts.

True, sort of. I knew it needed starter contacts but also knew it had other issues, so I was prepared for something big as well. The price was cheap enough that it was worth the risk.

The 4Runner is a better vehicle for the same asking price, in the right hands, it could be a good deal. For someone capable of doing the work, it's certainly worth a look.

I don't know, I paid $2k for a non running white taco. Put a motor in it and it's been going strong for 5 years. A 4Runner is a hell of a lot nicer truck. Prolly not worth it if you take it to a mechanic but for someone handy enough, it could be a good buy.

The risk exceeds my tolerance level and in the end the speedo still shows 240K.

That's OK, Phil. You don't have to buy it. There has been lots of positive interest in this rig, so I am pretty sure it will sell. I posted it as a courtesy to a friend of a friend. And I posted it just in case a CSC member was interested in a rig in this condition. You have made it quite clear that you are not interested. That's OK, it does not make you a bad person. I am not particularly interested it in myself. John

Hey John-
Since I was the first person to respond to your thread I wanted to explain my post. I was responding to the" what's it worth " question and giving my 2 cents on how I would value the 4rnr. I would not have posted my opinion if it was a for sale thread because that would have been bad form on my part.

I just agreed with Funner's post :moon: and my other post were to Brotherrob and had nothing to do with your for sale for a friend of a friend sale thread. To be clear I have zero interest in a 4runner of any kind. :rimshot:

:popcorn::beer::lol:

So if you could swing the rig for $1500 and $1100 engine... then add $500 for incidentals. Have a gone through, locked 4runner for $3100 (theoretically). Sounds pretty good to me :meh:

If I had the time I might be on it...

I am still waiting for the contact info! Hell I could have had this bitch running already while you "f"ers fight with Phil:rainbow:

I don't see the issue with a 200 thousand plus mile rig. Plenty of 80 series have similar mileage and are still going strong. Sure a high milage rig is going to cosy more to put in order but that would never stop me from owning one. Every 80 will eventually be a high mileage rig.

Owned six Toyotas this day
