Man, there is a lot of information here on swapping out the stock bench seats to buckets! Unfortunately it is no use to me because I'm trying to put the stock seats back in. I just picked up some stock bench seats that I'm restoring and I am hoping someone can tell me, or better yet show me a pic, of how the driver front seat mounts up. Mine is a '68 and has the tool box under the seat. Looks like it is supposed to have two catches in the front that are integrated with the tool box lid but what about the back? I will have to track down the parts for this too, it looks like they are discontinued.

So how 'bout it? Can anyone help me out?

Best I can do right now...

I would be willing to give you my seats and mounting brackets to include my top lid if you need for the catches for your bucket set up and brackets. Maybe even throw some cash to you as well depending on what you got. Let me know via Pm. I am away from the house right now so I cannot send a pic.

Here are a couple of pics of how the drivers seat sits in the truck. Pardon the rust. ;)

The seat has a frame that sits on the tool box lid. The front is held in place by two latches, the rear by brackets that bolt to the floor. The rear of the seat frame has pins that slide into the brackets held in place by clips. See pics. The drivers seat will tilt backwards so the tool box can be opened, plus it's easily removed for sitting around the camp fire and to make room to stretch out if you sleep in the truck. ;)

Holy S**T! What happned to the floor of that cruiser!

Thanks for the pics Coolerman....just what I needed. I'm hoping I can source the parts. Specter no longer sells them. Worst case I can maybe adapt something from a toolbox latch for the front but I'm less sure about the back. It's hard to make out the details on that bracket but I now I have a much better idea.

PM sent

Just so happened to have a 68 sitting out in the garage. The pictures should provide a little more detail on the front latch. Between these and the diagram from S. Boston + pictures from Coolerman on the rear bracket, you should be OK. If you need dimensions, give a shout.
Best regards;

The back attachment is just 2 brackets with holes and two studs that go in those holes on the seat frame. Very similar to the way a Heep wrangler rear seat is attached at the front.

Very helpful, Gentlemen! Thanks for the info and the pictures, they've been a big help. I'm working on some custom brackets and latches to use for now untill I can source the OEM parts.

A few more pics for reference. My '64 has a rounded front on the frame. I have another with a sqare front ('69 and newer I think) that has been taken back to bare metal and repainted. If your interested let me know. If you have any '64 parts I'll trade ('64 whore).

Coolermans Rig

Just curiou s why you are going with the orignal seats, do you just like them?--- I think they are pretty cool but my back cant live with the bolt upright seating for very long

Sorry this is off subj but just a plug for the Cooler Rig

Here's what happened to it;)

If you are not familiar with teh story of Coolerman's rig you should check out his site--miracles are there

good ref site for lots of things --FSM, Schematic, build your own rust removal tanks and all kinds of neat stuff--but the rig is the real story-pretty amazing what he started with

Those seats are handsome! Nice job. The pics are exactly what I needed. I did just buy stock seats with the intention of restoring them, but thanks.

I dig the seats - they look correct to me. Generally I prefer old-school stock look to modified. True, they don't sit like a modern bucket seat, but I don't find them uncomfortable. Of course, I may offer a different opinion after spending a few hours behind the wheel.

And I agree with you...Mud is lucky to have Coolerman. Just yesterday I printed off a wiring schematic that he posted. What a wealth of info he has shared!

Well.... It's not that I like the seats that much, but they are stock, like the rest of my truck, within reason. ;)

I don't plan on this being a wild off-road truck, nor a daily driver. If it were to be either, I would ditch the stock seats and go with something with butt warmers, back massager and tilt in every direction. :grinpimp: I like the fact the drivers seat removes also...

Stock rules....
