Starting modestly... I want to get a full length full coverage roof rack that is SLIM. Gobi and Prinsu float to the top. What should I be considering when assessing each company's options? And should I be looking elsewhere too? Help me, Obiwans.... you're my only hope....

ARB Base Rack? That and Front Runner are the top of my list, although Front Runner isn't exactly slim.

I have been looking for slim rack options as well and to me the only one that came close is the Prinsu, but there are still a couple of things about it I don’t like so I decided I am going to build my own. This will let me put something together exactly how I want it.

I’d factor in delivery time.
I ordered a Prinsu for my GX470. Had it in a week.
My Buddy ordered a Gobi for his 4Runner last June.
Got it last night.

Another important item I’d consider is the adjustability of the crossbars.
I can’t speak to Gobi, as I don’t know their design.
But on the Prinsu, every other bar has a 6-8” slot of adjustability (the others have a fixed position, though you don’t have to have a bar there).
Makes mounting items, and spacing them out to your needs, very easy.
I’ve seen a few “Prinsu knock-offs”. All their crossbars have fixed positions. In my case, I would not have been able to mount my RTT and carry my fuel cells if I couldn’t custom-arrange the crossbars.

I have prinsu, like it as its pretty low profile and light and quiet (bar placement is key). Wife has Gobi on her 5th gen 4runner and its HEAVY, looks amazing but you feel it (and hear it). Just put a Bowfin Cruiser rack on buddies 100 last weekend and its like a modified Prinsu.. Nice but prefer my Prinsu. Can't go wrong with the Frontrunner either...

I have been running with the Gobi on my 2016 for 3.5 years now. I do very much like its strength and the full "floor". I ordered with the optional removable crossbars so I can put them where I want. And I also ordered the sunroof insert (which is very rarely on the roof). All that said, I am considering selling it next Summer if not sooner as the only thing I put up there these days are my MaxTrax and a shovel which I strap together as a bundle. To be very honest, I could probably mount those to factory crossbars and be OK. The Gobi is heavy which is another factor. Again, not an issue if I was using/needing it. But I just haven't been. I am going to have Dissent Offroad do a handful of things over the winter and I will look at their option. But it feels a bit extreme for me and, again, I am not sure I need the space. I may also look at the ARB. Oh, and I can echo the comment about lead time. Gobi's are made to order - and the production process is long. The one thing I will hold onto is the ladder. I really like the Gobi ladder so I'll keep that on even if I don't have an official rack. I have a Yakima box I put on top on rare occasions and the ladder helps me access it.

I have the Frontrunner and while not slim, it seems to offer the most in the way of accessory mounts. Check out the Rhino Rack Pioneer system. . .it seems to be slim and has a good reputation.

thank you all. I will check out the Rhino Rack system as well. Much appreciated...

FWIW I ordered the Rhino Rack package with the SX attachments to the factory LC200 side rails. I'm not planning to carry an RTT and I like that I don't have to remove the OEM roof rails to install it. That was the decider. TY @catastrofe for recommending Rhino Rack. I will of course post pix. ALSO, I ended up ordering from Backcountry Racks. Zero Tax, Free Shipping and less than the MSRP on the Rhino Rack site.

Can you list the parts you used? I may consider this route as well. I don't want a rack day to day, but want the ability to carry fuel and other gear on the roof when needed.

Check out Gamaviti. I love mine. I like the strength and the cutout for the sunroof

What do you want to mount to them?

have you installed? pics?

You'll love the Rhino Rack, I recently installed one on our GX and I couldn't be happier. Take your time assembling the platform and get the support bars exactly where the instructions tell you to which shouldn't be hard with the clearly marked lines on the underside. I have yet to see another rack with this kind of attention to detail, top notch stuff for sure. I look forward to seeing the end result on your 200 as I will likely be looking for a rack for our 200 later this year.

FYI I reached out to Sherpa, they said they will have info around an announcement in Feb. With the ARB base rack (shark fin issue) Ill probably wait a month or two to see how those two racks develop.

Hey Mike,

Thanks for reaching out out the LC200 rack. We do have one that we have done some initial prototyping on but it is in the middle of the R&D process at the moment. We hope to have more information on the LC200 product release in Feb.

Best regards,
