FYI I reached out to Sherpa, they said they will have info around an announcement in Feb. With the ARB base rack (shark fin issue) Ill probably wait a month or two to see how those two racks develop.
installed? pics?I received the giant box. its 67 pounds and 6 feet long. I'm waiting for slightly warmer weather to unpack and assemble it all. Wife already not pleased, but hey...
I am also looking for a rack, however, I use the Air Down, Gear Up full sleeper platform (awesome by the way) so I don't have a need for a RTT. Currently, I throw the Thule on it for wet gear, etc. Anyway, long winded way to say, is there a product that mounts to the existing OEM crossbars (similar to the accessory mounts several rack companies sell) that could be used to secure various items like MaxTrax, shovel, etc.? This would solve the reduced fuel efficiency of the rack unless I was on a trip. Anyone have any thoughts?I have been running with the Gobi on my 2016 for 3.5 years now. I do very much like its strength and the full "floor". I ordered with the optional removable crossbars so I can put them where I want. And I also ordered the sunroof insert (which is very rarely on the roof). All that said, I am considering selling it next Summer if not sooner as the only thing I put up there these days are my MaxTrax and a shovel which I strap together as a bundle. To be very honest, I could probably mount those to factory crossbars and be OK. The Gobi is heavy which is another factor. Again, not an issue if I was using/needing it. But I just haven't been. I am going to have Dissent Offroad do a handful of things over the winter and I will look at their option. But it feels a bit extreme for me and, again, I am not sure I need the space. I may also look at the ARB. Oh, and I can echo the comment about lead time. Gobi's are made to order - and the production process is long. The one thing I will hold onto is the ladder. I really like the Gobi ladder so I'll keep that on even if I don't have an official rack. I have a Yakima box I put on top on rare occasions and the ladder helps me access it.
