man, i didn't realize getting a set of NGK spark plugs in this area was such a PITA! i've called every napa, kragen and pep boys within 20 miles and no dice!

there is a place with BOSCH platinums, but might just have to wait for mail order of the NGKs.

sheesh.

update: i finally get ahold of the dealership. $7.21/each of Deno's! jesus!

update2: so i called Steven's Creek Toyota in santa clara via the TLCA website. the guy was ultra cool and quoted me $1.60/piece including discount for being am member. i'm jazzed and ask him about the 7.21 - he was floored too.

so i call back the burlingame dealership and question the guy. he says something about it being the shop price and that he "guesses he could match" when i explain that his price is TRIPLE everyone elses.

the only reason i'm not already at steven's creek is because it would be over a 60 mile trip just for plugs.

i would deffinitely recommend Steven's Creek to anyone in the south bay. the parts guy was proud to honor the TLCA discount and was very helpful.

call your local toyota dealer. mine always stocks nippondenso plugs. i have always had better luck with the 'densos than the NGK.

hahaha! you posted just as i was finishing my reply.

$7+ for a denso is REDICULOUS. i found a local guy who sold them for $1.14 a piece. i usually buy them from my toyota dealer for $2.70 each... what a rip off! i have an extra set if you cant find any, it may be cheaper for me to mail them to you! hahaha!

Christ! $7.00?!?!? I'd rather gap old ones and use them until I could find cheaper ones! Are you considering those "Hot NGK's"?

i would have just cleaned the ones i have, but i ran seafoam through the system and want to have some new plugs in there as the truck is lagging at the moment.

i was just going to order up the NGK 2128s - i heard/read about the hot ones, but no one posted a part number to reference and the 2128s are all that showed up on the sparkplugs.com website.

man. 7.21 for a spark plug. what a jackrod!

$7? sound like the plug for a 100 series......$1.50 tops for 97 and before. Plugs for ALL my cruisers(even the F 135) are stocked by my dealer.

But does the dealer stock NGK's? My truck currently has AutoLite plugs, and it dosen't look like they are even relatively new.

As for the Seafoam, does the treatment require new plugs afterwards?

Why not give them your credit card and ask them to drop them in the mail.

Yep, the Steven's Creek Toyota guys are very helpful.

Nippondenso is the exclusive replacement plug available through Toyota in the USA.

I am currently running Bosch plat's. Will I notice anything switching to oem plugs? Are the ND or NGK plats better than OEM?

geesh, I must be doing something weird. I use Champions; buy 'em on-sale...90 cents or so, good for about a year ( 20K, 30K miles). Chanmge 'em when I do my 'annual' maint cycle.

My F, 2F, and 3FE hate Bosch plugs. Champions run mediocre. ND or NGK: smooooth

funny, mine (F, 2F) didnt like bosch either. i have run densos for 10 years now and havent had any problems. a friend recommended platnum autolites, so i bought a set to experiment. i just did my annual matinence cycle, so we shall see how they work. i bought a set of densos too, so if i dont like the autolites, i am only out $7 for the set!

cant go wrong with denso. put in a 50kV coil and open the gap to .05 in and it'll puuuuuuurrrr......

sweet, thanks. gping tomorrow to get'em

hey sport - i just saw you had a HEI dist... If you have that and have plugs gapped .o5ish - i am not sure if they are going to make a diff. my 85 has HEI, and it's a lot different. I am not sure you will notice a diff. I think the stock dist and ND make a diff though. jsut don't want you to waste the $12+ and not notice a difference...

going to try them anyway

so after getting the plugs out, i notice that they are not only AutoLite's but also one of the plugs had the arc'ing tab completely bent down toward the electrode. there was no damage and appears to just be REALLY bad oversight on the part of the PO or mechanic.

all told though, the truck has it's power band back and i'm /extremely/ happy with the $6 spent on new plugs. i would assume my mph can only get better not that all plugs are gapped and firing correctly :]

having taken the truck in for a full tune up at a shop, i assumed they changed the plugs. low and behold, that was not the case. what a

Sorry, but I fail to see any potential benifit from running high price exotic spark plugs in our low compression, slow revving tractor motors. Copper cored champions have always done me well and seem to fit the bill just fine. If I was trying to spin this lump up to 7k while boosted to 2 bar I could certainly see buying exotic plugs, but......

Diesel guys bust just sit back and laugh at us.
