I got the SM420 in my garage. The 3 spd bellhousing, flywheel and pressure plate are on the cruiser. I know i need to get an 11" Chevy clutch disc as well. What im wondering is if there is a complete adapter kit i can buy. Ive read all the tech links and other sites info, but i am hoping to find the plate, pilot bearing, sleeve, bolts, etc in one kit so i dont have to hunt each part down from different companies. Where did all of you SM420 guys get your parts??

Mudrak also has the sleeves and rings. Not too hard to hunt down parts. Check above links, get the piolet bearing thru Napa - Federal Mogul #202RRE. John Pardi has a steel adapter plate. You also have to have the 3 speed front output flange, with a 3 speed female slip yoke for tranny clearance.
The only thing I'm wondering is if anyone's had any problems with that smaller U-joint breaking.
Auto Zone has the 11" clutch discks for less than $30. The only thing you really can't buy is the linkage for the t-case, except for maybe Charlie Glabe can make some. I worked out his dimensions for the plate that bolts to the tranny, and the bolt holes didn't line up. Not too much of a problem though. Bust then you have to bend the bottom part of the shifter to get the hi/low selector to move just right. It takes some playing with a torch and a vise.

I, as have many others, have used that joint without issue for many years, and many, many hard wheelin' miles....

Hell, I am still using a 1310, which is comperable to the Toy three speed joint in size, with the 60's on the Tcase side...

Anything can, and will break....

Good luck!

I still have a couple of linkage adaptors left, but I'm not planning on making more. Works just like the stock 4sp linkage.
PM me if you are interested.

I am in the middle of a sm420/350 swap. I have all of the stuff to convert the sm420 available if you are interested

- longer pilot bearing.
- clutch disc (new) used twice
- I also modified a LC 3spd input shaft retainer (i think that is the name) so you don't have to use some adapters for the sm420 shaft.

Let me know if you are interested.

- Rico.

Well that's cool. Just something that was in the back of my head.
