Same item, same OEM supplier, but different manufacturing location. One from Thailand - one from Japan.

Which one is better? Does anyone actually know with genuine scientific data?

I don't, but my preference is to avoid 'cheap' Thaiwanese made oil filters and go for what should be the higher quality genuine Japanese made ones.

Who's got anything they can offer for experience with things like this?

TOYOTA has moved all their filter manufacturing to Thailand
the quality is equal and made in the Denso Factory.

Toyota Japan 90915-30002 vs Toyota Thailand 90915-300028T Oil filters

I've been looking for an oil filter for the 80 looks like it's changed from the one made in japan vs Thailand. I don't think you can go wrong with either because they're both genuine Toyota however the made-in-Thailand one looks to be built differently maybe with more modern filter materials...
