This came up in other threads I found when I searched and also while I was doing my Belt change.

I bought a "V Belt Tension Gauge" at Napa for $9.50.

I checked the old belts and they we about 10 lbs (or less). I knew they were loose. I then changed my belts and tightned to what I thought felt was right. The gauge showed 25lbs. I then tigtned up to 75 - 80lbs using the gauge.

Note: When They were tight by feel, I noticed that one of the pair belts seemed to be not as tight as the other. However, when tightned up, they both were the same. There were other threads about one belt being tighter than the other.

So here is the little gauge (Sorry for the focus)

You put the gauge on the belt

Then press down until you hear a click. Where the yellow bar is flush with the scale is your tension.

Note: You need to be halfway between the pullys to get a decent reading
