I have tried several of the gas strut pn posted in the past and couldnt get the right size. After sitting in the part store I got one that works and thougt I would share the pn. Auto zone Mighty lift brand, pn D95982. Dont know the poundage but it fit in and all I had to do was unscrew the ends. Hope this helps out. I just used one and it lifts the hatch and holds it up.

No problem. It's length is very close, there is no need for the white bushing or to trim. Just remove the clip end by unscrewing.

Thanks! This was really helpful. I bought the gas struts from an RV parts store and it was much cheaper than at any auto parts shop. Took less than a half hour start to finish.

One of the first mods when I got my 60. Hard to keep the hatch open with your head while digging around

X's 2. Great suggestion. Just did the mod and part numbers are the same. A set of two new ones ran me just shy of $50 total. Mine has been resting on the spare for so long I forgot the two were not attached. I had better success with removing the set screw at the base (where the lift screws into the bottom bracket) and unscrewing the lift from the bracket rather than detaching the lift from the top bracket by removing the moon clip, etc. I installed two and the poundage is enough to require two hands to close. Again, great contribution!

I got these from Amazon. I had to cut the threads off the shaft. Otherwise it is a perfect fit. I can't believe it took me this long to read about this mod!

How long does it take for the instinctual flinch and duck to go away? I have just been walking by it in the garage and I still do it everytime! It is hard for me to get used to it staying up for so long!

So is this a skinny strut that fits inside the OEM unit it did you just mount the strut to the OEM bracket?

Would you mind measuring the diameter of the wide part of the strut? I’ve bought two sets and neither would fit. So I’ve mounted one set without the OEM struts but would love to have the OEM struts back in there. Thanks!
