My coworker just gave me his nice stainless Charbroil professional series grill. The only problem is that it's plumbed for using natural gas. Can I just hook up a propane regulator to it and use it with my propane bottles? Or do I need new burners. The burners are heavy duty brass units.

IIRc the burners themselves are not significantly different. But the orifice needs to be reduced in size and a different regulator needs to be installed.
They make a conversion kit from propane to nat gas, but I am not sure that they make the reverse kit
Giev them a call and find out. The conversion is not tough..
I've read about people using a dual stage regulator to convert from NG to LP. I need to first get the serial number to see if they made a similar LP model. If so, then I might just order new orifices and a regulator.
yes, the problem is IIRC that Propane has a much higher energy content than Methane which is whey one goes to bigger jets for NG. I suspect that if you use it as is with Propane there will be nasty things happening (as in things burning, melting etc) at full power. Perhaps if you leave it on the minimum it'd be OK? But I'd still tread very carefully. You could well lose the burners and more. (And keep it far away from the house if you try...)
