Hi All.

I just acquired my cruiser and it came with a gas door that doesn't stay shut. I have no idea what it's missing. Can someone help me identify what I need?

Thanks in advance!!

There is a missing tab. The nut in the second picture usually has a tab threw it to clip onto the gas filler door.

These are the PN and pictures of the parts you will need to fix your issue. As you can see from the watermarks on the pictures you can source these parts from Partsouq.com

If you look at the photos above, there is a bevel to the "pin" that allows it to get pushed in as the door closes and then pops out again to keep the door closed. When you pull the cable the pin retracts and the door pops open due to the spring that is supposed to be in the hinge but looks to be missing from your door - but it is hard for me to be certain. The spring is in the photos above too so you can verify if yours is missing. As @azngarage stated, it may just be that your "pin" is retracted due to a stuck cable from the gas door release lever. If your lever is loose or still in the open position that may be a clue. It seems unlikely that the pin would break or wear down. If you look in the nut, you should see the pin there. To access that area, you should be able to remove the door where the jack is stored in the rear quarter panel and access that area without having to take off the actual interior trim.

Wow. That's awesome info. Thank you. My pin is there and appears to be pushed in.

If you are aware of any DIY videos out there on this, please pass the links my way. Thanks a ton.

Not aware of any DIY videos, but it should be a simple fix. Just pull the access panel in the back and find the bracket that holds the cable and find out what is holding it up from springing back out. My guess is that it is either the cable being caught up on something, the pin being caught up on something, or the spring that is supposed to push the pin out is broken or missing but this last one seems less likely.

Make sure the gas door release lever near the hood release is functioning like it should be too.

So does that piece retract when it's pushed in? And is that piece the part that latches on the black plastic piece shown on my door?
As stated by @cahill that tab retracts when the lever for the gas door is pulled and releases the door. The tab might be stuck but mine looked exactly the same way and it was broken off.

The spring is what pops out the door. It comes with the black piece and is installed together.
