Could you grab me a couple thousand gallons of No. 2 diesel please? I'll pay ya when you get back. :D

Just returned from Mexico, 3rd trip in the last month and a half.

What... Where was my phone call!!??

How was it? Did you go down to Cholla Bay? I'm headed down in 2-3 weeks.:bounce:

This is the proof of the manipulation of gas prices by big oil. Gas in Mexico was about 2.20 when I left Morelia in October 2006 and has gone up only slightly since then. At that time in Laredo it was about 2.15 per gallon which was low, the average was about 2.30.

I don't mind paying a fair price, but when a loan officer is necessary to fill up I get upset.

Just another reason we should annex Mexico. There's already no distinction between the two nations via a boarder, so we might as we reap the benefits and take over their natural resources.

For those of you who make regular trips down to Meh-HEE-co, have you ever been harassed by the law enforcement officers? Either local or Feds? I frequently hear stories of the dubious "traffic stop" that is really just an extortion opportunity for the cops. Have any of you run into this kind of corruption or worse?

I won't travel there. My life and family are too important. There's plenty of other places to go. I won 3 trips in 3-years....all inclusive, worth thousands each and didn't redeem. The bummer was I couldn't get anything else in their place. It was go or no go. NO GO!

We used to go to Rocky Point every May to fish and get the boat salty. Never had a problem. The last year though, on the way back we were stopped at a roadblock by what looked like 15 year old federales with M16's and searched. They never said a word, just checked us out and let us go on our way. Long story short, we've never gone back.
I know, I'm a whimp;)

They're not just stories Ed...

Cantinero and I were shaken down between Rocky Point and Cholla Bay. Jami (his GF) was with us. He gave her most of their $$$ before they approached the truck. Took D and me out of the truck and searched us. Threatened to arrest him for DUI. Long story short, they got about $80US out of us and let us go.
They were in local cop truck. One was in uniform, but the first one up to us was in plainclothes, looked to be under 20 and spoke no English.
They had followed us from the tacoria we were at and din't put their lights on until we were well outside city limits.
I'd still go back. But I'll avoid TJ.
From my own experience and most stories I've heard, if you don't pull attitude with them, you can get off with a small hit to your wallet.

That's what I thought. I haven't been and I probably won't ever go -- I'm afraid I won't be able to keep my mouth shut when some punk tries to extort money from me and I'll wind up in a Federale PMITA prison for a few years.

I have to give the police/authorities credit for taking big steps in correcting previous issues they some of you may heard about or experienced. In the past year I have seen a lot of change for the better on the way down and in Rocky Point area.

On a recent trip where you are slowed down for donations for the Mexician Red cross they had a police officer handing out a flyer in English stating do not give anyone claiming to be an authority any money ask to go to the police station and provided a phone number to call if someone tried or you felt you were treated inappropriately by such.

During spring break a friend of mines kid was pulled over for speeding on the dirt road into Cholla and quickly offered the police a bribe to let him go. The police required the kid to follow him to the police station and was fined for and trying to bribe a police officer and was informed that this not acceptable here and let off on a warning for speeding.

There are several professional made signs posted on the highway all the way down to Rocky Point stating "Hassle free US zone" with a picture of a car, atv, and something else I cant remember now.

I have been traveling down to Rocky Point for 32 years and have driven down to Cabo, raced in the Baja 500, 1000, 2000, and driven all over Mexico mainland with never an issue. Sure there are problems if you look but I dont look for trouble....

If you look there are problems in every Country and in every major city. Just check your local police report for your own area and you might be shocked.

Give me a call next time I will gladly take any inclusive trip anywhere you are scared to goto.

Corruption is mostly at the local level I cant remember anyone being extorted at the federal level. Again I have encountered many road blocks by Federalies never a problem.

Tijuana is one place in Mexico I would try to avoid, just like I would avoid East LA or Detroit...

I went to Rock Point many time and never had a problem.Went with my grandfather in the 50s he had a boat there we used to go fishing and shoot sharks with his Thompson Sub Machine gun great times.I would go back if I could take mine with me but now you can't bummer.I'll stick with this side of the border when I've seen everything here first maybe then I'll go back. 2009 will be the year when gas passes $5.00 a gal

Phil is completely right. Rocky point fired over 80% of it's police force about 2-3 years ago, because they were corrupt cops. I would much rather travel in Mexico, then in the deep south with all of those stories about backwood sheriffs and their "speed traps" and corupt judges. That scares me way more! :eek:You will never catch me driving south of the Masson/Dixon line or east of New Mexico!:hillbilly:

Actually they were trying to "fine" me $50 for a DUI after they had searched me and found that I had $60 cash on me. He threatend to take me to the police station where the "doctoro" would draw blood and tell if I was drunk or not, I said "Let's go amigo, because I'm not drunk and I'll pass the test." This went on for a few minutes of him telling me it would be cheaper to just pay him then the DUI at the police station. I kept insisting to take me in that I wasn't drunk and that I would not pay the fine here. I had only had two beers over the course of three hours we had been out. Finally he said, "You know, I think your fine is $50 for open containers in the car." I looked at him said, "I'm not going to win this one with you, you want $50 bucks out of me no matter what." All I had was three $20 bills and of course he had no change. I tried several times to put the money in his hands, but he backed up and kept insisting I pay his buddy in plain clothes. His buddy finally stepped up and took the money from my hand. I was pissed and had his badge, truck number, and was going to report him the following morning, but I ended up just blowing it off and putting it behind me. That was why I kept pressing him to take the money from my hand. I still say it was my run of "luck" on that trip and it all started when I hit the jackrabbit.

I will say that in almost 38 years of going to Rocky Point, this has been my only time of being extorted. Sure I have had a couple of run-ins with the policia, but it was because I was being a dumb, drunk, american kid, and truth be told it would have been a ton more costly for the same instance if I were here in the states. A couple of those illegal misguided ventures would have destroyed my life if I were here in the USA.

Besides, most of the stories generated about bad experiences are to keep the general populus of Arizona from over running our little hang out. So those of you that are faint of heart or weak-knee'd please spend your vacation somewhere else safe. Rocky Point is already becoming way too americanized and it has destroyed it.:flipoff2: I'm already pissed that Sandy Beach is nothing but resorts and golf courses now.:flipoff2::bang::flipoff2: I might as well just go to San Diego.
