I won't disagree with you BMAN, but crime happens everywhere. How many car jackings happen in the US everyday? How many of those sometimes turn fatal? Not to take anything away from the Hall family, by any means. What they went through was a very bad situation, by all means. There are good areas and bad areas in every city or country around the world. I certainly wouldn't venture into Compton, CA after dark, nor would I go to TJ in Mexico. My common sense says to stay away. I also would not venture across Mexico HWY 2 either, very evil road. Yet our local news here in the valley sometimes lumps reports of violence or fatalities that happen on that HWY, and sensationalize it into a story about the "road to Rocky Point thing". I guess if I were traveling from San Diego down through TJ and across to Sonoyta via the Mexico side of the border, then it would be the "road to Rocky Point", but they don't tell you that. HWY 2 is loaded with drug activity, and you just don't go there. IMO, border towns are more adept to have more corruption and crime then towns like San Felipe or Rocky Point that are further into Mexico. I'm not here to sell anyone on Mexico as a vacation spot, or that it is the safest family getaway, but is there really a spot like that anywhere, either north or south of the border. We all have comfort zones of where we feel safe, and as I said one instance in 38 years is pretty good odds for me all things considering. Unlike here, in the US, I have been a victim of car theft, home burglary, and property vandalism 16 times, with ZERO apprehensions, in a shorter time span. I have also been pulled over twice by AZ's finest for what I believe to be nothing more than a "DUI fishing adventure", only to be let go once, and the second to be cited because I hadn't changed the address on my drivers license. If that isn't legal extortion, I don't know what is.

Step out your bubble... lies to keep people out of San Diego...

Hey Phil,
I was glad to see some good news come out of your California news link.;)

Licensing deal ends Jefferson Starship spat

"I would much rather travel in Mexico, then in the deep south with all of those stories about backwood sheriffs and their "speed traps" and corupt judges. That scares me way more! You will never catch me driving south of the Masson/Dixon line or east of New Mexico!"

Yeah, you stay out there and live in your little bubble! We are just a bunch of backward rednecks over here in the south. If you decide you need to come through our part of paradise then I will meet you and see that you have an escort through Mississippi so that no crooked sherrifs or Highway patrolmen get you. Get real!

Later,

Hey Jeff,

I got real a while ago, and that's why I won't travel there. My life and family are WAY too important. Besides there are plenty of other safer places to vacation with the kids, my girfriend, and the ex-wife (Detroit MI., Oakland CA., Washington DC.) just to name a few of our favorite family get-away spots. I've won 3 trips in 3-years....all inclusive to Disneyworld, worth thousands each and didn't redeem them because they were in the south. I've just heard too many horor stories and have seen too many Dukes of Hazzard episodes cronicling the corruption. The bummer was I tried to exchange them for a trip to Euro Disney "where everybody just loves us crazy americans", but was told by Michael Eisner himself that it was either the "mouse in the south" or the "highway". So I went with AZ 85 south.

Anyway, thanks for your gracious southern hospitality of an escort through that wonderful state of Mississippi, but you're right; I should stay in my safe lil' bubble out here in Podunk-a-dunk AZ. Besides, it's probably best I do that as long as Bush is President. You never know when that :hillbilly: is going to throw a :wrench: into something, and cause the family and I to get strip searched and extorted road side, by M-16 weilding, out of work, mouseketeers that are pissed off because the economy is so screwed up.

BTW, have you done that next run of your killer shirts yet? Still waiting for my pick for the shipping.:grinpimp:

hasta manana,

One thing we can all agree on is you need to be aware where ever you go..no place is 100% safe.

Now back on topic - Why is gas so costly here? Bushs fault, I dont know. I recently read about the fuel we are using for the war and the prices we are paying for it - unbelievable. Why are the fuel prices so high when we are so close to where the fuel is being produced?

I lived in Morelia and Ixtapa for years. I will most likely retire to one or the other. In the numerous trips I have made I have had a total of two "bad" experiences, both ended in a minimal mordida (bite/payment to the local policeman) Both were nonsense traffic stops and interestingly, both happened when my Mexican Wife was with me.

I was pulled over by a Federal Highway patrol officer once (when I was most definitely speeding) and was let go with a warning.

I look forward to going back and wish people would stop perpetuating the negatives of Mexico it's like anywhere has it's positives & negatives.

My Wife was telling me the maid gets 6000 pesos a month from the government, her electricity & water are subsidized and free health care & she hates the administration!

On a side note TJ is a toilet as are most border towns. Nueva Laredo is not that much worse than Laredo although as border towns go I prefer Laredo to most.

Bodean...that avatar is freaky!
I just read somewhere of the possibility of $180 a barrel for crude. What would that equate to, once refined, in dollars per gallon of gasoline?
Another thing I'm wondering about is the competition for oil with China and India. Apparently, many of the people who used to ride Blackbird bicycles are now driving cars. But the average income has to be a tenth or less of what it is here. What are they paying for gas at the pump?
