An "ossewa" directly translated is an "ox wagon" and was the mode of transport used by the Voortrekkers in the Great Trek of Southern Africa in the 1800's - an epic adventure on a par with the opening up of the western United States.

So I figure it is an appropriate name for my new ride - an Aussie BJ42RV LX built 03/84. It took a long time to find her, and I think I probably paid a little more than I should have, but she has all the factory goodies - A/C, P/S, 5sp, front discs, 6 forward facing seats, practically no rust, and 270000km means about 10000km(6000ml) per year of her life. Roadworthy, registered, and drives sweetly.

So below are some pics taken on delivery - I think she is mostly stock and my intention is to keep her that way (mostly). She will be my daily driver so I'll fix a few things now and perhaps in a few years (once I recover from buying her) she'll get a full restore to original. (If you need reference pics feel free to shout - any way I can help the MUD forum).

Exceptional!

WOW! If she runs as good as she looks You found that pot of gold!

That rear seat is cool

VERY nice cruiser! Can the a/c keep the inside of your cruiser cool on a hot day? I have a reprodution a/c unit from Cool Cruisers of Texas in my restored 1980 FJ40 that can't keep the inside cool when temps get above 95f. I was wondering if the stock unit can.

Thanks

Thanks for the comments and for the welcome guys :)

I did find the holy grail about a year back but the current (and first) owner still sings her to sleep in the garage each night and is not selling - and it's taken me this long to find something similar - :princess: says it is more like an obsession. Thanks to all the Mudders though - the commitment and community on here is inspirational.

I'm really chuffed with her - the PO struggled to say goodbye - it is original paintwork (except for a touched up hood as far as I can tell) and you can still see the spot weld dimples in the panels. No oil leaks, and keeps an easy 100km/h on the highway - 110 if I pushed harder - but they are not built for speed that's for sure :steer:

@Randy - I've not had a really hot day with her yet. The A/C was regassed and blows cold and strong, my gut feel is that it will do okay but can't say for sure. We are about two months away from those daily temperatures here in Brisbane, but I'll post back when I've tested it in anger.

Thanks again for looking at my rig.

Cheers
Gary

Awesome find Gary, that looks to be in really great shape. I'm jealous now too, that's my dream 40 right there.

Nice ride. Are those 16 inch wheels? Did they also come on Canadian Market Diesel BJ40's? What is their width? Thanks.

Glad to see another cruiser find it way home to an appreciative owner.

Home?

I hope your "Newcastle" is the Australian one!

Diesel 40-series cruisers have their roots in this part of the world! :D

nice cruiser mate....i couldnt tell in the pics...does your truck have the aussie style air con where it blows air from under the passenger side or is it the proper japanese style blowing sweet cold air from the heater box.....im jelous if its the later
welcome to mud
RED47

Wow nice cruiser. Man i wish i had your powersteering. :steer:

BAAS- Keep us posted on how it goes.

RED47-A/C from the heater box? I never knew such a thing existed in a 40 series. Got any pics of this type unit? The reproduction system I have is on the passenger side only and uses R134. With the petrol 2F engine only 1" from the firewall on the drivers side, my feet are always hot since the a/c doesn't duct any cool air to the drivers side.

Randy, is your heater control valve closing off all the way?

Gary, does your LX still have the factory radio?
